Tasted from bottle, Drouhin's 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc is showing very well, offering up aromas of fresh pear, Meyer lemon and grapefruit zest that are still quite youthfully marked by a generous application of buttery new oak that experience shows will integrate nicely with a little age. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with racy underlying acids, a fragrant core of fruit and a long, penetrating finish. This is a very elegant, aromatic rendition of this emblematic Drouhin cuvée.HK$7,151.00 -

(Outstanding) More elegant aromas include those of essence of ripe red cherry, anise and a pretty floral top note. The generous medium-bodied flavors possess an appealing texture that carries over to the vibrant, youthfully austere, balanced and lingering finale. This too is lovely and worth a look as well.HK$5,980.00 -

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is as compelling a Cabernet Sauvignon as one could ever hope to taste. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a high-elevation site boasts an inky/purple color, and smells of ink, blueberry liqueur, blackberries, black raspberries, mulberries, licorice, charcoal and camphor. With magnificent fruit richness, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, and incredible length, this seamlessly constructed 2012 should provide immense pleasure for 25+ years. Kudos to winemaker Chris Carpenter as he is clearly at the top of his game.HK$24,000.00 -

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Sweet nose and rather less freshness than the Boucherottes. Just a little less precise. But all may come right with bottle age.HK$2,580.00 -

The 2017 Beaune Village really over-performs this year, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, licorice, orange rind, grilled ceps and peonies. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, succulent and enveloping, with fine depth and concentration, powdery structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. Combining substance with structural charm, this will offer a broad drinking window. As ever, this cuvée is a blend of premiers crus Boucherottes and Epenottes with the lieux-dits Prevolles and Beaux Fougets, so the raw materials are unusually serious for a communal bottling.HK$1,750.00
