The harmony and delineation is outstanding. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, pliant tannins that lend this Clos Saint-Jacques symmetry and poise. The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very perfumed bouquet, beautifully defined with fragrant raspberry preserve, wild strawberry, rose petal and crushed granite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannin. It is not a powerful Clos Saint-Jacques nor the most complex, yet it is utterly harmonious and so silky smooth on the finish that you will find this nigh irresistible. Sensual and gunning for top position amongst the five Clos Saint-Jacques growers in this vintage.

(Outstanding) Here too there is just enough wood to warrant mentioning framing the exceptionally spicy red berry fruit and floral-suffused aromas. There is fine density to the sleekly muscular and intense flavors that are blessed with fine mid-palate concentration on the tightly wound and sneaky long finish that is both balanced and notably firm, and which should enable this to evolve and improve for at least two decades. There is a hint of warmth but it's not enough to really detract from the overall sense of harmony. In a word, impressive.

Good red-ruby. Wilder aromas of red and black fruits and coffee. Juicy and tightly wound, with good structure for the vintage. Lifted by a violet florality. Finishes fresh and firmly tannic.

The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. Fleshy and quite corpulent compared to other vintages, with a long spicy aftertaste. Excellent.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has wonderful transparency on the nose of red currant and wild strawberry, plus glimpses of orange blossom and rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced and quite peppery in the mouth. Fine grip and length. This is a lovely Lavaux that will be difficult to resist in its youth.

Good deep red with ruby highlights. Dark raspberry and licorice on the nose, complicated by musky herbs, menthol, leather and game. Then less sweet and more medicinal in the mouth than the Lavaux, displaying distinctly darker flavors. In a more masculine style, finishing with tougher tannins. The vines here average 55 years of age, making them the oldest of the estate.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is already showing a little maturity on the rim, possibly due to assiduous stem addition. The nose is open-knit and soft with brambly red fruit, perhaps needing a bit more delineation. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry and quite fleshy in style, with moderate acidity and a dash of white pepper. Plenty of extraction here. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a very composed bouquet of darker fruit than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques; there are also hints of blood orange and tangerine here. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and superb acidity. Quite saline in the mouth, displaying real complexity and nuance toward the finish. Superb.

Superripe aromas of dried fruits complicated by white flowers and a peppery nuance. Then distinctly less fleshy and generous in the middle palate than the Petits Charrons, with the peppery quality carrying through in the mouth. Markedly different in texture and style, and in need of patience.

Cooler yellow peach and lemon aromas are lifted by a floral topnote. Suave on entry, then elegant and pliant in the middle, with a dominant flavor of crystallized lemon peel. Very firmly built wine, finishing with lovely lingering stony perfume.

Tasted blind, this was an exceptional showing for Ente's 2015 Meursault 1er Cru La Goutte d'Or, a beautiful wine that offers up a youthfully reserved bouquet of iodine, citrus oil and white flowers. On the palate, this Goutte d'Or is full-bodied, ample and layered, with terrific cut, concentration and length, its tension and vivacity lending it considerable drama despite its reticence in other respects.

(Ente's brother Benoit used to make this wine; from vines planted in 1957): Exotic pineapple and lichee scents are lifted by flowers, spices and noble herbs. Broad and round, conveying a strong impression of dry extract and old-vines reserve. The driest of this set of 2015s and very backward: this wine will need time to fill in and express itself. Tricky to taste today.
