  • Mas Doix Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles 2014 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

I had two vintages of the old-vine cuvée to taste side by side, starting with the 2014 Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles. Made of 55% Cariñena and 45% Garnacha from old vines on slopes on slate llicorella soils, the fermentation and aging are the same as for the centenary Carignan: fermentation in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and an élevage of 16 months in new French barriques. It has moderate alcohol and high acidity. It has already started developing some tertiary notes and shows some graphite and wet slate notes. The palate shows great balance, with concentration and freshness—what you're aiming for in a wine like this where pure power might be too much. 5,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2016.

  • Mas Martinet Priorat Clos Martinet 2015 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

I love the 2015 Clos Martinet, which I find complex and elegant while keeping the Priorat rustic character found in the best vintages, like 2000. It's balanced, and the palate feels ethereal for the concentration it has. The tannins are abundant but very fine-grained, and there is a sense of harmony that is captivating. A great Clos Martinet. I had the chance to drink the 2000 a few days before I tasted this, and it remains one of the best years they have produced. 2015 is also among the best years. The favorites for Sara Pérez are 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2017. 12,000 bottles were filled in April 2017.

  • Mas Martinet Priorat Clos Martinet 2018 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

The flagship 2018 Clos Martinet is the wine that started it all and is still a blend of Garnacha (Tinta and Peluda), Syrah, Cariñena, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell as it was since the beginning but now with a restrained 13.5% alcohol and higher acidity. Clos Martinet is a single five-hectare terraced vineyard planted with clonal material in 1986 on decomposed llicorella slate, iron and big rocks in the soil. The varieties are co-fermented depending on the date picked—at three different ripening times—in two concrete vats and 200-liter oak vats with indigenous yeast and whole clusters. The beginning and end of the élevage was in concrete, and in between they used 2,000- and 4,100-liter oak vats and some 20% in glass demijohn and amphorae. The wine is subtle and a bit shy, insinuating rather than in your face. There is a lot less ripeness than in the past. It's medium-bodied and fluid, fresh and balanced. This is a very elegant Clos Martinet. 11,070 bottles and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in June 2020.

  • Mas Martinet Priorat Clos Martinet 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Their flagship 2019 Clos Martinet, one of the wines produced in the first vintage of the new Priorat in 1989 by the father of Sara Pérez, is still a blend of Garnacha (Tinta and Peluda), Syrah, Cariñena, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell. The nose is dark despite the lowish alcohol (13.5%) and has an earthy touch, with hints of fountain pen ink and abundant grainy tannins. 14,000 bottles produced.

  • Nin-Ortiz La Coma d’en Romeu Nit de Nin 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98+)

The 2017 Nit de Nin La Coma d’en Romeu is from an extremely dry and early harvest that delivered just five hectoliters per hectare! That means they only produced 1,330 bottles from the 1.5 hectares of Garnacha on those slate terraces at 350 meters in altitude. It was bottled in April 2019. It has a beautiful and subtle nose that’s very spicy (cloves and cumin, curry and pink pepper) and floral, with a palate that feels light but has great depth and inner power, with pungent flavors and subtle minerality.

  • Nin-Ortiz La Coma d’en Romeu Nit de Nin 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

The 2020 Nit de Nin La Coma d’en Romeu has the elegance, subtleness and perfection of tannins, which are impressive. In 2020, when people lost most of the crop, they were able to make even more bottles of this wine, 1,500 (vs the 1,200 of 2019), because when they saw the risk of mildew, they hired FIVE MORE PEOPLE to work their vineyards. That saved most of the crop; overall they lost 25% of their grapes, mostly young vines and Cariñena; but in the old vineyards and in Garnacha, they didn't lose much; and in La Coma d'en Romeu, which is old-vine Garnacha, they got the full crop. The grapes ripened to perfection and the tannins are super fine, and there is purity, detail and cleanliness in the wine.

  • Nin-Ortiz Mas d’en Cacador Nit de Nin 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (100)

The 2020 Nit de Nin Mas d’en Caçador is elegant, complex and subtle, nuanced and insinuating, somewhere between the austerity of the 2018 and the exuberance of the 2019. The palate shows terrific balance, very fine tannins (the perfect tannins!) and a long, very clean and supple finish. A vintage of finesse and elegance with energy, power and light. This is refined beyond comprehension; there's purity, elegance, power and detail, symmetry and proportion. A wine that took my breath away. Just for the record, the vineyard is a 3.4-hectare slope planted between 81 and 116 years ago with Garnacha, Garnacha Peluda, Cariñena and 2% white varieties at 650 meters in altitude on pure slate that they harvested on September 10th and got 12 hectoliters per hectare (extremely low yields). The full clusters fermented with indigenous yeasts in a 3,200-liter oak foudre for four weeks, and the wine matured in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels for 18 months. It has 14.64% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 and 5.4 grams of acidity (tartaric). 2,193 bottles were filled in April 2022.

  • Nin-Ortiz Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca 2021 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

The white 2021 Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca now has the mention "Vi Blanc de Varietats Antigues" on the label, as Cariñena Blanca is still not allowed by the Priorat appellation (but they are in the process). This has moderate alcohol and very high acidity, which makes it sharp and austere, especially when compared with the 2021 that had more flavors and aromas while this is more vertical and sharp. It has a chalky sensation and a stony mouthfeel. 4,466 bottles produced.

  • Nin-Ortiz Priorat La Rodeda 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

The 2020 La Rodeda has a much softer texture, very fine, and ripe tannins, quite abundant but fine, and the oak feels better integrated. The 2019 matured in a second-use barrel, and this 2020 matured in a third-use barrel. The wine shows more clarity. This is a very scarce bottling from a small plot that doesn't get any sun in the afternoon and is therefore protected from the heat. 304 bottles were filled in April 2022.
  • Nin-Ortiz Priorat Nit de Nin 2012 (6x75cl)

Revered for their tenacious commitment to excellence, vintners Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz meticulously handcraft each batch with immense precision and passion. The flagship wine is intrinsically embedded in a trifecta of native grape varieties - Garnacha, Cariñena, and Centelles - meticulously cultivated in the momentous Mas d'en Caçador vineyard.

The Nin-Ortiz Priorat Nit de Nin 2012 embodies the spirit of unfettered authenticity in its enchanting fusion of intense fruit-forward profiles and supple minerality. As it swirls in your glass, anticipate the pleasing aromas of succulent cherry, sweet clove, and dark chocolate, progressing into a velvety palate of profound gravitas. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels, this wine beautifully marries a robust character with invigorating freshness. • Nin-Ortiz Priorat Planetes de Nin 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95+)

A 60/40 blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from the vineyard that names the wine, the 2016 Planetes de Nin saw a similar vinification and aging as the 2017 I tasted next to it, so the differences found were only due to the vintage and the moment of harvest. This is a fresher vintage, with tantalizing aromas that are subtle and elegant, with notes of violets and red cherries, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely textured, with very fine tannins and fine chalky minerality. 9,108 bottles were filled in April 2017.

Glass-staining violet color. Explosive spice- and mineral-accented aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, incense, pipe tobacco and woodsmoke, joined by a sexy floral nuance. The fleshy, sweet, expansive palate offers concentrated blueberry and cherry compote flavors, along with suggestions of licorice and vanilla. Velvety tannins and superb clarity shape the seamless and lush but lively finish. This wine is now among the best in Priorat and has been moving in this direction steadily in recent years.

  • Rene Barbier Priorat Clos Mogador 2018 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

The flagship 2018 Clos Mogador is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 29% Cariñena, 16% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that fermented with natural yeasts and showcases their philosophy—slow fermentations with long maceration and long aging. It matured for 18 months in 2,000-liter oak vats and 30% in 300-liter oak barrels. There was a lot of rain in 2018, and the vineyards were extremely happy and everything seemed very easy; in fact, René Barbier told me it was perhaps too easy... It's an atypical year: It has a gentle profile, and the wines are not as concentrated as those from 2013 (the last rainy year before 2018)—they are more elegant and nuanced. This should develop beautifully in bottle. 27,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2020.

  • Rotllan Torra Priorat Tirant 2001 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96-98)

A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15. The 2001 Tirant is indeed a special wine.

  • Terroir al Limit Arbossar 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95+)

Similar to the Dits del Terra but from a north-facing slope, the 2013 Arbossar is pure Cariñena from an ancient vineyard planted around 90 years ago, and it is always a fresher and more floral style of Cariñena, matured in a Stockinger foudre for some 16 months. I already tasted an unbottled sample last year and it showed great, lively, very red fruit-driven, electric and full of flowers and minerals, and the bottled version has delivered as expected. It's a bright ruby colored red, which is always fragrant and perfumed, more feminine than the Dits del Terra, which is the comparison because both vineyards are in Torroja and the wines share the same price range. The nose reveals bright red fruit, and feels fresher than the 2014. The tannins are ultra-sleek, really elegant and balanced. This is a superb, elegant and fresh Cariñena, without any rusticity. Super! 4,669 bottles were filled in August 2015.

  • Terroir al Limit Dits del Terra 2018 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The south-facing Cariñena vineyard used for the 2018 Dits del Terra is worked biodynamically and is in the process of being certified organic. The grapes fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in 50% oak foudre and 50% in concrete. The 2019 will be 100% concrete. You can immediately notice the cooler year and the longer ripening cycle here compared with the 2017; there is more depth here, and the quality of the tannins is completely different and provide for a more elegant mouthfeel. The oak is neatly integrated and folded into the structure of the wine. It comes through as medium-bodied, powerful and elegant. It should develop nicely in bottle. 2,006 bottles were filled in September 2020.

  • Terroir al Limit Les Tosses 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

The top Cariñena is the 2013 Les Tosses, which for Dominik Huber is the pure expression of graphite and cherries, from an ancient plot on black slate soils fermented with full clusters and a short maceration and matured in oak foudres for two years. There was a volatile whiff and that sensation of warm slate that really transported me to the character of the roads in Priorat. There's also something that made me think of iron and raw meat. It's all relative of course, because compared to most other Priorats, this would feel extremely elegant and floral. The palate has even more of that tactile sensation of the graphite, with abundant, albeit extremely fine tannins and showing great balance. Some 1,000 bottles were filled in August 2015.

  • Terroir al Limit Les Tosses 2014 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

Already bottled in June 2016, slightly earlier as it usually spends two years in foudre to avoid excessive fatigue because of too much oxygen in the wine, the 2014 Les Tosses is pure Cariñena from an old vineyard on slate soils at some 650 meters altitude. There is none of the rusticity I often link to the grape, this is extremely floral and perfumed, with plenty of violets, a little earthy too. The palate is extremely balanced, and I don't remember tannins as elegant as these in a Cariñena before. There is length, freshness and a very, very long finish. This might very well be the best vintage of Les Tosses so far. This wine feels very young and it's a bit shy, but giving it time it is just amazing. It should be much better with a little more time in bottle. If you decide to pull the cork soon, make sure you give it some time to breathe. There are 1,946 bottles produced. The vineyard is almost two hectares, and Dominik Huber only used part of it for this bottling, and the rest goes to Torroja. But, his idea is to increase the volume so he'll take longer to sell this vintage so he can keep the wine for one year longer in bottle before selling it. Smart thinking...
