  • Joseph Drouhin Nuits Saint Georges Rouge 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (88-90)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Village has a tightly wound, earthy bouquet that needs to knit together a little more during the remainder of its élevage. The palate has a pleasant sharpness on the entry. There is admirable tension here, especially for a Village Cru, though the cohesive, lightly spiced finish deserves a better set of aromatics (at least at the moment). One to watch once in bottle.

    Vinous (89-91)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès 1er Cru felt a little gawky on the nose when I tasted the cask sample. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant sharpness on the entry, delivering firm grip and a saline finish that lingers in the mouth. Give this a couple of years in bottle.

    Vinous (87)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 1er Cru has quite a medicinal, camphor-tinged bouquet that is nicely defined if still a bit oaky. The palate is full-bodied and continues the medicinal theme, delivering sweet cassis and black cherry fruit with a heady finish.

  • Julien Gerard Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (88-90)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 1er Cru, matured entirely in new oak (wood dried for 36 months by Cavin called "Aphrodite"). It has a very opulent bouquet of kirsch and crème de cassis aromas. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, and very oaky, of course, with good grip and perhaps more body than the Echézeaux, though for me, not quite the same elegance.

Black fruit, smoke, tobacco and licorice flesh out as this broad-shouldered, structured Nuits shows off its inimitable personality. Layers of fruit build to the huge, vibrant finish. • L'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forets Saint-Georges 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

Offering up a deep bouquet of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and spices, the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a textural attack, melting tannins, ripe acids and a deep core of sapid fruit. The finish is impressively long and nicely defined. Deeper and fleshier than the more ethereal Clos d'Arlot, this will blossom with a little bottle age, but it's sufficiently elegant and expressive to be approachable sooner.

The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges is a lovely wine in the making, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, spices, licorice and smoked meats. • Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2001 (3x75cl)

    Burghound (94)

(Outstanding) Assertively complex and spicy black fruit nose introduces seductive, intense, big yet refined flavors that completely coat the mouth and rest so long on the palate that this is frankly almost sensory overload. Tannic, concentrated, deep and weighty yet without a trace of heaviness or lack of balance. As good as the Vignerondes but again, the expression is different - the Boudots is perhaps bigger and more concentrated whereas the Vignerondes is silk and elegance. Either way, it's a very high class problem to choose between them.

  • Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2009 (2x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Aux Boudots is a big, explosive wine endowed with considerable textural depth and power. Endless waves of flavor wrap around the palate in this extroverted Burgundy. Despite the wine’s size, it also has more than enough polish and class to balance some of its more overt tendencies. Black cherries, smoke, spices and asphalt are some of the nuances that add complexity to the long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is slightly deeper in color compared to the Aux Vignerondes while the bouquet is very different, more marine-influenced, slightly estuarine. The palate is medium-bodied with a heavenly satin-like entry. The acidity is perfectly pitched, this Nuits building in the mouth toward a complete, harmonious, almost Romanee-Saint-Vivant like finish that caresses the mouth and exudes wonderful mineralite. This transcends the vintage.

Tasted next to the Vignerondes, the 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots is quite a bit fleshier. Silky tannins and soft, racy curves give the Boudots much of its distinctive personality. This is a decidedly sumptuous style of Nuits. Although it is naturally an infant, today the Boudots is absolutely stellar. I loved it.

Notes of cassis flowers, violets, earth and plenty of spice leads to medium weight flavors that possess a sophisticated mouth feel as the tannins are extremely fine-grained. There is good punch and delineation to the chiseled, intense and moderately austere finish that is not only exceptionally persistent but impeccably well-balanced. In sum, this is textbook Vignerondes with its refined yet tautly muscular palate impression.
