Vinous (94)

The 2022 Poggio alle Nane is quite a bit more interesting than the 2021 tasted alongside it. There's more depth, greater textural richness and finer integration of oak here. Black cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather build as this showy Maremma red opens in this glass. It's a striking wine from the team at Le Mortelle.

The West Australian (97)

The 2017 vintage was one of the milder vintages in WA. The latest Moss Wood captures this vintage perfectly and is without doubt one of the more restrained and tightly framed Moss Woods of recent years. Not the opulence of 2014 or the firm power of the 2016. Yet it retains the elegance, perfume and soft approachability that is Moss Wood. And hidden within is a wine that I suspect will still be drinking beautifully in 30 years. Make sure you decant it even now before drinking.

Halliday Wine Companion (98)

Pulsating with sweet fruits and velvety mouthfeel, it only takes a split second for this wine to establish its greatness in the pantheon of cabernet sauvignons grown around the world. The unusual decision to include 7% petit verdot picked at 15.2˚ baume (cropped more heavily than the cabernet and picked over a week later) doubtless played its part, but its synergy with the cabernet (and a soupçon of 3% cabernet franc) must have given much pleasure and justified pride. Nature being what it is, the cabernet sauvignon yield was 40% down at 4.5t/ha. All in all, though, this is a cabernet to melt a pinot noir addict's heart.

Ray Jordan Wine (98)

One of Australia’s great cabernets. This from a cooler season highlights and accentuates the typical bright red fruits and blue fruit mix, especially on the nose. It’s aromatic and perfumed with an African violet scent. The palate as always is so exquisitely balanced and refined. Since 1989 the cabernet has been augmented with the floral bright fruit of cabernet franc and the darker robust black fruits of petit verdot. The palate delivers with a gentle restraint yet there is power deep within. The chalky tannins define a long and focussed finish. A deceptive medium bodied wine that will cellar for many years.

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)

The 2020 Moulin de Duhart has a bright, vivid nose. A mixture of blackberry, blueberry fruit and crushed violet comes through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a dab of dark chocolate on the entry. Supple and fresh with a lovely harmonious rondeur on the finish. Good potential.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)

The 2023 Moulin de Duhart is very aromatic. Crushed flowers, mint, spice, dried herbs, pine, sage and tobacco weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit. This mid-weight, savory Pauillac is charming right out of the gate. It's everything a second wine should be.
