We think it is time to re-visit Château Figeac 2019:
- It is now offered down an incredible -44% from its high price of HK$ 16,473 (set only in April 2022).
- Savvy buyers are now picking this up at a huge discount (traded on Cru yesterday at HK$ 9,400 p/cs).
- Still scored 100 points by Lisa Perrotti-Brown and 98 points by Neal Martin.
- Figeac was still only recently upgraded to St-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) - in 2022.
- Relative to all other vintages, Figeac 2019 is clearly the stand-out buy.
- No depth to the current low-ball offers. Buyers of just 5-10 cases will move the market significantly.
Has Figeac 2019 Fallen too Far?
Château Figeac 2019 was one of the best performing wines of the 2019-2022 bull market. On the back of the speculation over, and then the reality of, the upgrade to 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) status - this wine jumped from its release price of HK$ 7,511 up to a high of HK$ 16,473 in April 2022 (+119% gain).
But the upgrade to 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) status proved to be a 'sell the news' event, with the price subsequently slumping -44% to its current level of HK$ 9,400 p/cs. But at this level we are finally seeing buyers stepping back in, and this is giving us confidence that the bottom may have been reached for this wine:
Château Figeac 2019 is the Most Attractive Vintage
With its massive average score of 98.3 points, Château Figeac 2019 is easily the most attractive Figeac vintage right now, in terms of price versus quality:
We therefore recommend that collectors re-enter the market to start picking off the low ball offers that are floating around for this wine. A rapid re-ascent to all-time highs may not be on the cards yet, but the upside / downside profile now looks heavily skewed in this wine's favour.
Château Figeac
Since the arrival of new winemaker Frederic Faye and benchmark efforts in the 2015 & 2016 vintages, Château Figeac has been on an incredible surge and now stands as one of Bordeaux’s hottest properties.
For years, many people speculated that Figeac may be a contender for an upgrade to 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) status in the next reclassification in 2022. We’ve based many offers in recent years on this tip so were pleased to see that this did indeed happen in 2022 as Figeac was elevated to 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) status.
With the classification system in a state of flux today as Cheval-Blanc, Ausone and Angélus have all exited its programme (for varying reasons), what is sure is that Figeac has continued its journey right to the top of the St. Emilion hierarchy in terms of its prestige & reputation among Bordeaux lovers around the world. Figeac is quite right at the forefront of the minds of those looking to build enviable collections of the finest Bordeaux.
