Pauillac
Welcome to the remarkable world of Pauillac, an appellation that stands as a testament to the grandeur and finesse of Bordeaux wines.
Pauillac is home to some of the most celebrated vineyards in Bordeaux, renowned for their impeccable craftsmanship and the sheer magnificence of their wines. At the pinnacle of this appellation lies the iconic Château Lafite Rothschild, a legendary estate that has captivated wine enthusiasts for centuries. Its wines, characterized by their aristocratic finesse, layers of complexity, and remarkable age-worthiness, have become the benchmark for excellence.
Another exceptional vineyard in Pauillac is Château Latour, revered for its consistency in producing wines of extraordinary depth, intensity, and longevity. With its unrivaled pedigree and unparalleled reputation, Château Latour stands as a symbol of Pauillac's winemaking heritage. Château Mouton Rothschild, known for its opulent and opulent wines, delights with its richness, elegance, and artful blending.
Other distinguished vineyards in Pauillac include Pichon Baron, recognized for its precision and structure, and Pichon Lalande, admired for its finesse and feminine charm. Pontet-Canet, with its biodynamic practices and uncompromising commitment to quality, produces wines of immense power, depth, and complexity.
The terroir of Pauillac, with its gravelly and well-draining soils, coupled with the influence of the Gironde estuary, provides ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety in the region. Pauillac wines exhibit a captivating blend of blackcurrant, cassis, cedar, graphite, and hints of cigar box, framed by firm yet refined tannins and vibrant acidity. They possess a remarkable structure, balance, and potential for long-term aging.

2010 was a very dry vintage of exceptional quality, producing incredibly structured and complex wines that are a little formidable when young but should age incredibly. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose of the 2010 Les Forts de Latour is broody with subtle notes of licorice, tar, crushed black berries and plums with hints of spice cake and hoisin. Full-bodied, firm and grainy with an impenetrable core of muscular fruit, it finishes with fantastic persistence. Give it 5-7 years at least, and then it may well outlive the 1970 Les Forts that I recently tasted with Latour's CEO, Frédéric Engerer!HK$17,970.00 -

This wine is characterized by both structure and rich fruitiness. A dark, smoky character brings out the solid tannins that underlie the black currant fruitiness and the balance. Although it doesn't have power, an intensity gives a flavor that lasts in the mouth. Drink this wine from 2018.HK$22,090.00 -

Les Forts in the 2022 vintage is a blend of 58.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37.9% Merlot and 3.4% Petit Verdot. This feels more classically Pauillac on the nose than the Pauillac de Château Latour, the dark and toasted fruits here intermingling with notes of cedar and sandalwood, along with perfumed white chalk and griottes. Full, open, broad and confident at the start it has substance but in a sinewy rather than muscular style, with fresh acids and a very finely knit core of tannins which start to envelop the wine through the midpalate. Lots of energy and tannic grip here;this one says it will need a long time to come around, although I am sure it will be released in just a few years. A great Les Forts which will serve fans of Latour with less deep pockets well. The alcohol is 14.47%.HK$23,465.00 -

The 2016 Les Forts de Latour is the clear highlight among these new releases from Latour. The first thing that is evident about the 2016 is the pedigree of the vintage. Undisputedly great. Readers will find a potent, dark Forts de Latour endowed with massive concentration and tons of depth. The 2016 won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it holds tons of promise. Hints of gravel, sage, licorice and pencil shavings linger. The 2016 was impressive a few years ago. It is even better today.HK$10,895.00 -
