True to the vintage and to Latour, this wine is tannic, lean, aggressive, and still in need of bottle age. The color remains impressive, the richness and depth appear to be present, but the tannins refuse to yield. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 10/89.HK$8,215.00 -

(1x75cl) 1994Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-89)
Good medium color, with a slightly pale rim. Subdued blackcurrant, spice and cedar nose. Rather musclebound in the mouth and revealing little today, but fresh for the vintage. Finishes with ripe tannins and good length. Rather gently styled for this wine. This wine includes fruit from Latour's young vines, and, in '92 and '94, wine that was not considered strong enough to be bottled as Latour.HK$2,005.00 -

Amazing aromas of crushed berries and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with wonderfully velvety tannins and a long, long finish. This wine has wonderful texture and length. What a second wine!--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. -JSHK$26,490.00 -

Deep red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant and tobacco. Juicy, pure, intensely flavored and sharply focused; has a penetrating minerality that carries through to the firmly tannic finish. Should develop quite slowly.HK$15,995.00 -

The 1999 Les Forts de Latour was cropped at 38hl/ha. It is noticeably deep in color with just faint signs of bricking on the rim. It offers an impressive array of aromas: raspberry preserve, wild strawberry, cedar and light tobacco scents, probably more intense than I would anticipate after 20 years. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh, quite tensile opening. There is a little more sharpness here compared to the 1989 Les Fort de Latour, and slightly higher acidity (at a surprising pH of 3.73). The compact but lively finish reveals hints of charcoal and tobacco. This is aging very gracefully – quite punchy compared to the 1989 yet thoroughly enjoyable.HK$1,670.00 -

Dark and shaded ruby. Much more complex nose than any wine so far. But quite developed..? I love the minerality and lusciousness-yet-dryness on the finish. Very solid performance and a lovely wine for an extended period, I would say. Very grown up indeed.HK$20,050.00 -

The 2001 Les Forts de Latour is one of many that I had not tasted for a decade. Now at 20 years old, it has a lovely, almost melted bouquet of black fruit laced with tar, cedar and pine, rose petal, occupying that liminal point between primary and secondary stages. The well-balanced palate offers a dash of black pepper on the entry and shows good weight and tension. It’s lively yet classic in style, and fans out wonderfully toward the persistent, saline finish.HK$20,660.00 -

A classic second wine that shows outstanding potential, the dark ruby/purple-colored 2002 has notes of cedar wood, black currants, earth, and truffles in a medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, beautifully concentrated style that can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years.HK$18,465.00 -

Riper than 2000 with sultanas and plums. It's full with ripe tannins and a juicy finish. Be patient. Try in a year or two.HK$17,970.00 -

Les Forts de Latour, is one of Bordeaux’s finest 2nd wines. It reveals cassis, cedar and tobacco, yet it drinks slightly younger than its sibling. The 2004 is sensual with the vibrancy of this vintage. Fruit forward and beautifully defined, it drinking very well at the moment.HK$14,035.00 -

Open-knit yet deep and powerful, the 2005 Les Forts de Latour is striking today. The pedigree of the vintage comes through in spades. Expressive, perfumed aromatics meld into a core of supple, open-knit fruit in a mid-weight, impeccably balanced Forts de Latour. Hints of red fruit, iron, smoke and tobacco add lovely shades of nuance. Latour's President Frédéric Engerer adds that that 2005 was the easiest and most balanced growing season (including 2009 and 2010) he has seen because his team had the total flexibility of choosing when to harvest.HK$16,165.00 -

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Les Forts de Latour has a much more precise and lively bouquet than the Le Petit Mouton: blackberry, briary and vanilla emerging from the glass, suggesting that it needs another couple of years to reach its peak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, commendable depth of fruit and tangible mineralité. This is better than some of the Pauillac Grand Vins, such is the detail and energy on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2016.HK$14,930.00 -

Big and bold for the year, the tannins quite solid with a tight character. The fruit flavors are rich and intense, spiced with toast and acidity. Through it all goes the tell-tale 2007 streak of acidity.HK$21,545.00 -

The 2009 Les Forts de Latour is engaging and quite complex on the nose with blackberry, bilberry, hints of brine and freshly rolled tobacco, all very well delineated and gaining vigor with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin that frame layers of black fruit laced with pencil lead and tobacco, very convincing on the finish that has one of the longest lengths of any Pauillac in this flight. Excellent. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.HK$18,990.00 -
