  • Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Combe aux Moines 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines offers up a delicate bouquet of wild berries, cassis, coniferous forest floor and candied peel. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and elegant, with a succulent core of fruit, immensely satiny structuring tannins that caress the palate and impeccable balance. It's a strikingly graceful rendition of Combe Aux Moines, and thanks to its structural finesse, it will enjoy a broad drinking window.

  • Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (89-91)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru comes from a one-hectare parcel of old vines. It has an attractive bouquet of raspberry, forest floor and fern-like aromas that gather momentum in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, good depth and a little chewiness on the entry. I would like a little more detail and tension on the finish. Let’s see how it performs once in bottle.

  • Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90+)

Bright medium red. Subdued, slightly medicinal scents of cherry, raspberry, licorice, black pepper and wild herbs, complicated by spices and a hint of leather. Tight and taut, with rather ungiving cherry, menthol and crushed stone flavors in need of time in bottle to relax and unwind. Not a fleshy or sweet style--in fact a bit dusty today--and in need of patience. Finishes with slightly dry-edged, firm tannins and lingering spiciness. Will this rather cool premier cru expand with time in the cellar?

  • Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is very perfumed on the nose, offering confit-like red berry fruit, blood orange and raspberry jam. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine delineation, nice poise and a grippy finish. There’s nice sapidity here, and the constituent parts are all in pace – they just need time to knit together. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

  • Faiveley Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2003 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (89-92)

Saturated red-ruby. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, mineral and flowers. Quite primary and a bit youthfully tough and angular, with little early sweetness. A distinctly muscular wine, best today on the long finish, where the black fruit flavors outlast the serious tannins. I may be underestimating this.

  • Faiveley Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Spectator (97)

There is a fluidity here, along with pure black currant, black cherry and violet flavors and a balanced whole that makes this red feel very comfortable in its own skin. All that to say this is almost seamless and, given the long aftertaste, shows terrific potential. Features a long, mineral aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2047. 900 cases made, 50 cases imported. — BS

  • Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2011 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)

Bright, deep red. Very deep aromas and flavors of raspberry, redcurrant, smoke and crushed rock. At once penetrating and utterly fine-grained; explosive sappy perfume fills the mouth without leaving any impression of weight. Pinot just doesn't pull off this trick anywhere but in Burgundy's top sites. Finishes with noble tannins and outstanding palate-staining length.

  • Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Faiveley's 2014 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very perfumed bouquet with pure dark plum, bergamot and pressed rose petal aromas that filter from the glass. Wonderful. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, tensile from the start with hints of bay leaf and spice toward the structured and persistent finish. This is a very strong showing from Faiveley, a really marvelous Mazis-Chambertin for the long-haul. Tasted September 2017.

The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a detailed, mineral-driven bouquet with precise red fruit intermingling with sous-bois and light rose petal aromas. This is a killer combination of power and finesse. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins and a perfectly judged bead of acidity. Silky in texture, it fans out with marvelous precision towards the finish. The oak is seamlessly integrated. A fabulous wine from start to finish. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St-Jacques 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of mixed red and black fruit and a faint touch of tomato vine. It becomes more floral with aeration. The palate has fine structure, and there’s some clever stem addition apparent here, lending this Clos Saint-Jacques a subtle leafy character. Focused with fine weight toward the finish, this is very persistent and quite saline on the aftertaste. Reserved, but the pedigree is undeniable. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines 2013 (1x900cl)

    Vinous (92+)

Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Goulots Vv 2016 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

Good bright-medium red. Tight, dark aromas of black fruits and licorice pastille lifted by a whiff of cranberry. Ripe and broad, but with terrific inner-mouth floral lift and a rocky pungency. Tannins are fully ripe and fine-grained. Offers a rather exhilarating--and uncommon--combination of cooler flavors and full phenolic ripeness. This wine comes from a very cool, east-facing site planted on rock, which had difficulty ripening its fruit prior to global warming. A tighter, more intellectual style than the Champeaux: Fourrier loves the Goulots with sushi, while he'd pair the Champeaux with a rib-eye steak.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin VV 2011 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

Medium red. Captivating aromas of cherry, raspberry, blueberry and minerals, lifted by a floral topnote. The palate offers excellent cut and precision to the almost Chambolle-like red berry flavors. At once juicy and filled in, this nicely balanced village wine finishes with noteworthy length.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin VV 2014 (6x75cl)

Moderately saturated medium red. Complex nose melds strawberry, flowers, game and mocha. • Georges Mugneret Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (98)

The 2014 Ruchottes-Chambertin is a wondrous wine. Two recent tastings in Burgundy reconfirmed its strong performance when poured blind at the Burgfest tasting. It has an intense pomegranate and raspberry scented bouquet that seems to switch up through the gears with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and lithe, laden with succulent black fruit and insistent grip, perhaps just beginning to close up for a while. Outstanding. Tasted in Burgundy.

  • Georges Mugneret Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2016 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was also showing very well indeed from bottle, revealing a lovely bouquet of wild berries, spicy forest floor, dark chocolate and wild rose. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and satiny, with an elegantly textural attack, a bright core of fruit and a bright line of animating acidity, concluding with a mineral finish. Having escaped the year's frosts, this was cropped at more normal yields than the Clos Vougeot and Echezeaux, so it's no surprise it is more charming but less concentrated than those two special wines.

Blackberry, licorice, plum and leather aromas mark this dense, brooding red. The tannins are more assertive, suggesting the extraction was greater. In the end, this seems either too oaky or too extracted, finishing on the dry side. Best from 2015 through 2032. 290 cases made. -BS

  • Henri Boillot Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 (1x150cl)

    Vinous (94-97)

(aging in two new Remond barrels): Bright, dark red. Deep, brooding aromas of black cherry and smoke are currently muted by a bit of reduction. Then wonderfully sweet, silky and seamless on the palate, conveying an incredibly suave texture and great inner-mouth perfume to the complex flavors of dark berries, earth and smoky oak. Very classy juice; Boillot told me he used the same precise barrique for the Volnay Champans and that he plans to use more Remond barrels in the future. The rising, subtly spicy finish shows uncanny energy and a lighter touch than the Clos de Bèze. A knockout.
