Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has plenty of red fruit on the nose, still tightly wound after ten years. The palate is surprisingly structured, so much so that I thought it was a Les Saint-Georges. There is a touch of cough candy popping up on the finish with a spicy aftertaste. Very fine. |

Vinous (94)The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is showing quite a lot of reduction on the nose, which is quite savory at first, with hints of dried blood infusing the black and blue fruit. The focused, well-balanced palate is full of energy, delivering very fine, supple tannin and a perfectly pitched line of acidity. It doesn’t quite deliver the complexity one would expect, although the finish is undoubtedly refined and persistent. Good potential, but it needs five years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (93)The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix 1er Cru has a more compact, high-toned bouquet than Drouhin’s Chambolle premier cru tasted alongside, with darker fruit (blueberry and bilberry) complementing the red fruit. The palate is sweet and rounded on the entry and quite candied in style, but displays perfect acidity. There is plenty of substance toward the finish, as well as the roundness one seeks in Chambolle-Musigny. A touch of spiciness develops with aeration .This is a marvelous premier cru. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (93)The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru has an engaging, enticing, detailed bouquet of tart red cherry, red currant, crushed stone and subtle undergrowth/fern aromas that gather momentum with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced, with integrated new oak that complements and enhances the substance of this outstanding Chambolle-Musigny. It just feels natural and self-assured at this early stage, which is surely is a good omen for the future. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (90+)Healthy dark red. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice, rock and game are slightly wild in an enticing way. At once rich and juicy in the mouth, with firm acidity giving the black fruit flavors a penetrating quality for the vintage. Comes across as clearly more tannic than the 2016 version but with plenty of buffering material. This very concentrated village offering finishes with surprising length and firm mineral-driven acidity, and may be in the process of shutting down in bottle. |

Wine Advocate (90-92)The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a delightful bouquet with generous raspberry and wild strawberry aromas, very floral and exuberant with wilted violet scents and iris emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp acidity and fine cohesion. This is nicely focused, although it just needs a little more substance to seal the deal on the finish. It just tapers in a little early and leaves you wanting more. Hopefully that will be addressed with bottle age. |

Burgundy | 1 | 96 (VN) | HK$14,130.00
Vinous (96)The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru has a very traditional, well-defined and somehow noble bouquet evidencing some stem addition that is complementary to the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This does not have the spellbinding precision of Rousseau's Chambertin tasted alongside, but depth, grit, spiciness and impressive structure render the finish utterly compelling. Cellar this for at least another decade; it will surely be worth the wait. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Burgundy | 1 | 88 (VN) | HK$4,855.00
Vinous (88)The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru feels a little earthy and disjointed on the nose and never quite gets out of second gear. The palate is medium-bodied with light, rather dry tannin, and simple and rather mealy toward the brettanomyces-tinged finish. This is a bit disappointing after a more promising barrel showing. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (89-91)(two-thirds new oak; from 70-year-old vines in a parcel next to Vosne-Romanée): Good dark red. Crushed blackberry and blueberry aromas convey a sweet oak quality. Dense, sappy wine with intense dark fruit and spice flavors. The tannins are a bit aggressive today but there's plenty of buffering fruit. This seriously structured, persistent village wine has the structure for aging. |

Wine Advocate (96-98)As usual, there are three barrels of Cathiard's 2015 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, though whereas historically it was 100% new oak, there are two new and a single one-year-old barrel maturing this wine. It finished its malolactic in June. It has a very composed and pure bouquet that gains in volume with time, with aeration bunches of wilted violet. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannin, great structure and freshness here, the judicious use of new oak allowing the terroir to show through. It feels correct and strict on the finish, no bravura climax, rather finishing in more understated fashion and keeping you hooked. |

We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
