Winehog (98-99)The Musigny 2015 could well be a legend in the making. It does offer a unique balance between seductive generosity and a vibrant freshness found in very few vintages. Some have mentioned the 1929 vintage in connection with the 2015s – and while I have tasted very few 1929s – let alone 1929 Musigny – I can somehow relate to this interpretation. The vivacious energy and playful freshness does somehow defy the laws of physics – as it transforms the mulitible layers of rich and juicy fruit to an airy and vibrant wine. The bouquet is an explosion of red and dark fruits .. blueberries, pomegranate and red currant – brought forward by a very intense floral minerality. On the palate very long, intense and perfectly balanced .. the layered mid-palate fruit is exuberantly lavish, silky and energetic -perfectly focused by the very intense and powerful Musigny minerality. A legendary Musigny in the making! |

Vinous (95)The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru is slightly darker in color than its peers. There is a fug of reduction on the nose that makes the fruit profile difficult to discern. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite masculine and surly in style, although there is impressive substance and grip on the finish. This is in an awkward stage, but I’m convinced it will coalesce and become much more coherent with bottle age. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Burghound (90)Outstanding. Here there is no reductive funk as the agreeably fresh nose offers up ripe notes of earthy and spicy purple fruit. There is both fine punch and volume to the utterly delicious and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that display traces of warmth and rusticity on the otherwise solidly persistent and complex finish. In 2016 this was more Vosne in style but in 2015 it's clearly a Nuits villages but one with a certain refinement. Excellent and recommended. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (95)The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is taut and linear, more reticent than the Clos de la Barre at the moment, yet it evolves in the glass and reveals a Perrières-like stoniness. The palate pivots around a silver bead of acidity with citrus peel and nectarine notes, demonstrating greater depth than its peers on the powerful finish. Superb! Tasted at the 05/15 Burgundy dinner in The Good Earth. |

Vinous (94+)Pale, bright yellow. Extremely precise aromas of soft citrus fruits, crushed rock and smoky minerality. Enters the mouth silky and thick but lively, showing a seamless texture along with lovely gingery spicy lift. A wonderfully dry but ripe Perrières with a fine dusting of stone and superb energy and class. More mineral and less floral than the Genevrières. |

Vinous (91-93)(on its finings, with a higher level of CO2 due to the fact that its malolactic fermentation finished very late, in tank): A note of musky reduction to the cooler aromas of nectarine, crushed stone and hazelnut. Then surprisingly silky and suave but tight and high-pitched in the mouth, with its stone fruit flavors conveying a distinctly dry impression and solid underlying structure. This sexy but backward wine will benefit from some aeration at the bottling and has the structure to age. This was actually the last premier cru vineyard picked in 2016 because the fruit here ripens later. The vibrant, tongue-dusting finish shows a lightly saline quality. |

Wine Advocate (93+)Tasted blind, the 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots-du-Milieu offers up a deep bouquet of red-black cherries, spices, potpourri, espresso roast and subtle grilled meat. Full-bodied, ample and sappy on the palate, it's rich but vibrant, with fine-grained structuring tannins that are beginning to assert themselves on the finish. Having drunk several bottles of this wine since release, the extent to which it's shutting down is clearly apparent, and at this stage, patience will be required. |

Vinous (90-92)Moderately saturated ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis and menthol aromas are lifted by a mineral element. Juicy, saline and youthfully tight, even a bit clenched, but with harmonious bright acidity giving verve to the wine's dark berry flavors. Serious building tannins saturate the entire palate on the rather suave, fine-grained finish. |

Wine Advocate (96+)Aromatically, the 2015 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru echoes the neighboring Puligny Enseignères with its notes of ripe citrus zest, dried flowers and white peach, adding nuances of honeycomb and a subtle framing of smoky reduction. On the palate, however, the Bâtard is much more large-scaled and authoritative, with a glossily textural attack and immense depth at the core, while remaining stony—even saline—and remarkably weightless for a wine endowed with so much body and power. Though it's an elegant rendition of this terroir, it's unequivocally built for the long haul. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2015 Pouilly Fuisse en Bulands Vieilles Vignes comes from vines with similar terroir as the Les Crays but with a westerly orientation and older vines, around 83 years in age. It has a very harmonious bouquet, tender at first with white flower, honeysuckle and apricot blossom aromas that reveal their more mineral side with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, lively and tensile with a captivating sense of salinity on the long finish. This is one of the best 2015s from Barraud and comes highly recommended. |

Vinous (91-93)(from 60-year-old vines): Bright ruby-red. Very ripe but cool aromas of black raspberry, spices, licorice and menthol. At once silky in texture and light on its feet, conveying lovely intensity and inner-mouth energy to its berry and violet flavors. Not yet particularly flesh--in fact, this is still youthfully imploded--but juicy and alive, finishing with serious but smooth tannins. A note of bitter blackberry stimulates the taste buds on the back end. |

Vinous (92-95)(Duband pulled up a portion of these 90-year-old vines after the 2015 harvest for replanting): Dark red-ruby. Brooding aromas of dark fruits and licorice convey a medicinal quality. Then wonderfully creamy and mouthfilling, conveying outstanding depth and thickness to the flavors of black fruits and dark chocolate. This huge, chocolatey wine finishes with great rising length and cheek-coating solidity. In fact, this is rounder on the aftertaste than the Latricières, which Duband says is atypical. This wine, he added, is entirely from tiny berries and although it shows black fruits and big, ripe tannins, it's never exaggerated in alcoholic maturity and it maintains its freshness in bottle. |

Vinous (90-92)(two-thirds vendange entier; 25% new oak): Bright, full red. Distinctly limestone-driven aromas of raspberry, earth and smoky minerality. Silky, sappy and impressively concentrated, with black raspberry and cooler cherry flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity. The serious, broad tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's fruit flavors to carry well on the aftertaste. |

We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
