(6x75cl) 2009Vinous (87)
The 2009 Barolo Vigna S. Caterina is laced with sweet tobacco, worn-in leather, spices and mint. Here, too, the flavors are a touch forward, even within the context of the vintage, while the alcohol is evident.HK$2,310.00 -
Vinous (92)
The 2010 Barolo Vigna S. Caterina emerges from the parcel in Lazzarito where the winery is located. Here the slightly higher elevation and southwest exposure result in a Barolo that is more aromatically lifted and red-toned vis-à-vis the Lazzairasco. Mint, pine, sweet red cherries and orange peel lifted from the glass, supported by firm yet nicely balanced tannins that give the wine its shape. This, too, is a fairly open 2010 that should drink well with only minimal cellaring, within the context of the year. As always, this is the most feminine of the Porro Barolos.HK$845.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Vigna S. Caterina is another attractive wine in this range for Guido Porro. It offers up scents of dried cherry, orange peel, spice, mint and dried rose petal, with lovely inner perfume and fine balance. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous layers to round things out. Drink it over the next few years.HK$2,110.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Gianetto is a very pretty, open-knit Barolo to drink over the next handful of years. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, spice and floral top notes are all nicely put together in this friendly, easygoing Barolo from Guido Porro.HK$2,060.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Vinous (91+)
The 2012 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco is the most austere of these Barolos, but it also holds significant promise. Today, the aromatics aren't fully expressive, while the tannins are omnipresent. I expect all the 2013 needs is time. Ethereal and also gracious, the 2013 starts to open up in the glass, but there is no substitute for a few years in bottle.HK$1,545.00 -

The 2014 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco is a very pretty wine. Sweet floral notes, tobacco, cedar and red fruit, along with the wine's mid-weight silky structure, yield a Barolo of superb elegance and translucent beauty. All of the elements fall into place in a gracious, delicate Barolo that hits all the right notes.HK$750.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco is a beguiling, nuanced wine. Sage, mint, dried tobacco leaves and cedar give the Lazzairasco its nuanced, complex aromatics. Medium in body, with gorgeous inner perfume and fine balance, the 2018 shows quite well today. Relatively soft tannins (for Serralunga) and mid-weight structure argue for near and medium term drinking,HK$2,300.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Vigna Rionda is a very good wine for the year. Classic Rionda aromatics give this mid-weight, pliant Barolo tons of seductiveness. Silky tannins add quite a bit of charm. This is a fine showing in a very difficult year from a vineyard that is still very young following a replanting just a few years ago. Well done.HK$1,055.00 -

Soft red fruits come on in an almost pinoté fashion but are quickly joined by classic Nebbiolo aromatics of dusty earth, wild flowers and hints of subtle herbs and spice. Benefitting from fruit usually allocated to Guido Rivella's Montestefano and Fausoni this is a Langhe Nebbiolo that soars above the pack. A standout effort from this long-time master of the variety.HK$1,320.00 -

A classic, old-school, the 2014 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is focused and very tightly wound, and yet the wine pulses with captivating energy. Chalk, white pepper, mint, cranberry and sweet tobacco give the wine brightness, but, as is often the case with Montefico Barbarescos, the 2014 is really a wine of texture above all else. Next to the Montestefano, the Montefico is a bit more translucent and energetic in style, which is the personality of this site embodied. I loved it.HK$1,975.00 -
(6x75cl) 2016Vinous (95+)
The 2016 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is dark, dense, powerful and super expressive. Black cherry, mocha, leather, licorice and menthol are some of the many notes that take shape in a Barbaresco that is bursting with energy. Chalk, orange peel, dried flowers and mint add layers of nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. This brooding, potent Barbaresco needs time to be at its best, but it is clearly a great wine in the making.HK$2,360.00 -
Vinous (95)
The 2018 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is fabulous. Most producers would dream of making a wine like this in a strong vintage, much less one that presented so many challenges. Rose petal, goudron, lavender, spice and blue/purplish fruit open first. The 2018 is relatively soft and supple, but that is not a bad thing for a wine from Montefico, where the Barbarescos are often searing in intensity. The 2018 finishes with real weight and intensity.HK$1,425.00 -

The 2019 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is a powerful, dense wine. Sage, mint, tobacco, orange peel, kirsch and rose petal emerge from the glass. Just bottled, the 2019 packs a serious punch of Nebbiolo acid and tannin. A classically austere Barbaresco, the Montefico is a gem in the making. This is Montefico through and through. What a wine!HK$2,790.00 -

The 2020 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is a very pretty wine that captures all the magic of this great site, but without all of the explosive tension of the very best years. I doubt that will matter much to most consumers, though. A beguiling mix of macerated cherry, rose petal, dried leaves and spice builds into vibrant, salivating finish. In 2020, the Montefico is perhaps just a touch slender, but it makes up for that with its superb energy.HK$1,765.00 -
Ignite your senses with the noteworthy La Ca' Nova Barbaresco Montefico Bric Mentina 2021. This fine wine is beautifully crafted within the famed Piedmont region in Italy, partaking in the fertile soils between Alba and the Tanaro River. La Ca' Nova, the producer, is a family-run estate with over three decades of precious expertise. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a natural fermentation process in stainless steel before being matured in Slavonian oak casks. The result? A vivacious Barbaresco with elements of ripe cherries, rose petals, and undergrowth melding into a full-bodied taste seasoned with gentle tannins and an elegant finish. A well-structured wine capable of mature evolution, La Ca' Nova Barbaresco Montefico Bric Mentina 2021 is the epitome of Italian finesse and tradition.

The 2014 Barbaresco Montestefano is fabulous. Rich, ample and explosive, as the best wines from this site are, the 2014 covers every corner of the palate with intense fruit, bright acidity and structure. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, orange peel, spice, tobacco, leather, smoke and licorice infuse the exotic, resonant finish. The Montestefano is always a wine of breadth. That is exactly what comes through here.HK$1,820.00 -
(6x75cl) 2015Vinous (94)
The 2015 Barbaresco Montestefano fleshes out in all dimensions, as it does in all the best years. Warm, rich and inviting, the 2015 is a wine of pure and total pleasure. Black cherry, plum, sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and spice take on exotic shades of expression. All things considered, the 2015 falls just a bit short of being thrilling. In exchange, though, readers will find a Barbaresco that will drink well with minimal cellaring. What a gorgeous wine this is.HK$3,685.00 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (96)
The 2016 Barbaresco Montestefano is simply magnificent. Bright floral overtones and red/purplish berry fruit give the Montestefano a feeling of focus and explosive energy that is compelling. Hints of mocha, leather, smoke, lavender and a whole range of balsamic inflections open up in the glass, revealing a Barbaresco of power, structure and complexity. Ample in feel and yet wonderfully vibrant, the Montestefano is wonderfully complete. It is also one of the very best wines I have ever tasted from La Ca' Nova. The Montestefano is a bit more showy today than the Montefico, but both wines are remarkable.HK$975.00
