Gorgeous, fragrant and structured, this has enticing scents of violet, camphor, orange zest and red berry. The focused palate boasts great energy, doling out strawberry compote, crushed rasbperry, cinnamon and white pepper alongside taut, elegant tannins and vibrant acidity. Just fantastic.HK$23,380.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Tre Tine is a super-classic wine. It reminds me so much of a wine Beppe Rinaldi might have made. Readers will find an austere, taut Barolo built on energy and tension more than primary fruit. It's the sort of Barolo that blossoms only with time in bottle. Spice, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, dried cherry, macerated red cherry and anise start to open with a bit of coaxing. This is an intriguing wine, to say the least.HK$22,905.00 -

Given the tendency of the wines in this vintage to exhibit quite a bit more structure and a coiled nature, I was surprised to find how elegant and silky the 2019 Barolo Tre Tine is. That’s no knock on the wine, however, as it’s stunning all the way through. Light ruby red, it’s spicy and lifted with notes of graphite, spiced strawberries, white pepper, tangerine, and rosewater. Elegant throughout, it offers fine tannins, a weightless feel, and a delicate, refined, and seamless texture, with a light warmth on the finish. Pure all the way through and long and haunting on the finish, it has a finessed touch. Drink 2025-2045.HK$16,705.00 -

This is a celebrated blend of mostly Ravera with 30% to 35% Cannubi San Lorenzo and 5% Le Coste. The Giuseppe Rinaldi 2020 Barolo Tre Tine is still tight and narrow at this young stage, but it will surely flesh out with more time in bottle. There are delicate fragrances of tart berry fruit, cassis and blue flower over a streamlined and very silky mouthfeel. The Ravera vineyard near the winery measures three hectares across two distinct parcels. The first piece that faces Le Coste was planted in the 1980s, and the second parcel that looks toward Novello was planted in the 1990s.HK$29,945.00 -

The 2021 Barolo Tre Tine is a pale red color and is a zesty and more lifted vintage with classic aromas of sweet red berries, raspberries, orange zest, dried earth, and fresh flowers. The palate is vibrant and tension-packed, with fantastic balance, nervous and electric energy, salty freshness, well-defined, coiled tannins, and a long finish. While it’s the most approachable of the range, this is a vintage that needs time, but it’s packed with vibrant energy and will be a vintage for the long haul. While the 2019 has more fruit, this shines more for its minerality. Most of the blend is from Ravera, with 20% each from San Lorenzo and Le Coste. Drink 2028-2058.HK$29,945.00 -

The 1997 Barolo Brunate is fabulous. Here, too, I expected to find a bit more evolution, but the wine is quite fresh and has none of the roasted qualities that are such an issue elsewhere. Sure, the 1997 is not classically austere forbiddingly tannic, but it is hugely delicious and a wine of pure, total pleasure. I loved it.HK$15,590.00 -

(an 80/20 blend): Light-medium red. Exotic, slightly decadent, old-style aromas of roasted strawberry, truffley underbrush, tar and brown spices. Suave on entry, then creamy in the middle, with red cherry and strawberry flavors complicated by slightly funky but fascinating porcini and earth tones. Marta describes the Brunate-La Coste as more austere, blacker wine but this 2009 is atypically gentle in the early going, even if there's plenty of ripe tannins to support a leisurely evolution in bottle.HK$20,435.00 -

One of the most anticipated wines of the night, the 2010 Barolo Brunate delivers on all levels. Dark, potent and expansive on the palate, the Brunate captures all the magic of this great Barolo vintage. It is at once incredibly precise and impressively constituted, with explosive energy that builds over time. This is what Barolo is all about. Two thousand ten was the first vintage in which regulations required only a single vineyard to be listed on labels, although wines can be vineyard-designated with only 85% of juice from that site.HK$5,755.00 -
(12x75cl) 2011Wine Advocate (93)
The 2011 Barolo Brunate shows dazzle and pizzazz with a good sense of density and structure at the back. Its tight, svelte texture wraps smoothly over the palate. Bright aromas of cherry, dark fruit, balsam herb, rosemary oil, cola and crushed mineral appear with clear definition and energy. Because of the warm vintage, this wine went into bottle six months earlier than average to allow for a longer evolution in glass.HK$37,230.00 -
(1x150cl) 2013Wine Enthusiast (98)
Classic Nebbiolo aromas of new leather, menthol, pressed rose, perfumed wild berry and chopped aromatic herb continuously lift out of the glass. The luminous, delicious palate delivers layers of succulent Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and star anise set against a backbone of youthfully assertive but fine tannins. Bright acidity gives it wonderful balance while a note of pipe tobacco graces the lingering finish. Drink 2028–2048.HK$10,065.00 -

The Giuseppe Rinaldi 2014 Barolo Brunate is a darkly saturated expression with important textural richness and lasting dark fruit flavors. Marta Rinaldi tells me that she lost up to 40% of her Brunate fruit in 2014 because of a violent hail storm. That natural yield reduction has done much to increase the power and concentration of this lovely Barolo. Blackberry, sour cherry and wild plum segue to grilled herb and citrusy orange peel.HK$18,475.00 -

The 2015 Barolo Brunate benefits from a thicker soil profile in this vineyard that consequently bumps the wine's aromatic intensity and staying power up a notch or two. This wine is almost crunchy in texture, with a subtle snap or crackle as it hits the palate. It shows enormous beauty and richness with a dark fruit profile followed by elements of spice, tar, tobacco and moist potting soil. There are floral notes as well with rose and lavender. This wine will reward those with the patience to wait.HK$33,650.00 -

The 2016 Barolo Brunate is a tightly wound wine with striking inner perfume, sweetness and energy. Deep, dense and powerful, the 2016 exudes a sense of classical austerity that will thrill Rinaldi lovers. I remember tasting it during bottling and thinking that Beppe Rinaldi would be so very proud of his daughters for making this wine, a Barolo that so vividly captures the heart and soul of what these wines are all about. The 2016 is going to need a number of years to come into its own, but it holds immense promise.HK$11,980.00 -

Rinaldi's 2018 Barolo Brunate is one of the more satisfying wines of the vintage. Austere, medium in body and classic in feel, with that extra bit of textural resonance that is such a Brunate signature, the 2018 has real potential. Dark cherry, melted road tar, tobacco, spice, menthol, sage and licorice all build in the glass. The 2018 is going to need a few years to soften and start hitting its stride, but all the ingredients are there. It's a powerhouse, that much is certain.HK$24,100.00 -

Created in the fertile vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba in Italy's Piedmont region, Grasso Tiziano Barolo Briccolina 2012 exemplifies meticulous winemaking. Produced by notable winemaker Tiziano Grasso, the Barolo Briccolina boasts high-quality Nebbiolo grapes grown on the south-east facing Briccolina hill. The distinct climate of the region nurtures the grapes to ripen slowly, thus building a depth of flavour. The year 2012 saw an idyllic blend of sun, rain and temperature, contributing to a well-balanced palate.
Following fermentation, the wine was meticulously matured in traditional large French oak barrels. The maturation process of Grasso Tiziano Barolo Briccolina 2012 enriches the wine's perfumed aromas and accentuates its structure and complexity. This vintage is distinguished by its deep ruby colour and rich, layered taste. It offers sumptuous notes of dark cherry, licorice and hints of earthiness with a long, superbly tannic finish, promising a perfect bottle to those patient enough to cellar it.
