The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is one of the standouts of the vintage and is a youthful ruby/magenta color. On the nose, it's floral and perfumed with aromas of violets, black cherries, graphite, rosemary, and fresh sage. It's seamless on the palate, with a weightless feel in a medium to full-bodied frame, and has plush tannins, refreshing acidity, and a haunting finish. This stunning wine should drink well over the next 20 years.HK$6,225.00 -

The 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is the only wine Salvioni will release in a year marked by everything except good weather. Rain and poor overall conditions during the critical summer months plus an attack of the Suzukii fruit fly during harvest and high disease pressure proved to be too much to overcome. The 2014 Rosso is an attractive wine made from the best fruit Salvioni was able to salvage. Hints of dried cherry, tobacco, spice and dried herbs add modest complexity to a mid-weight wine that is best enjoyed sooner rather than later, before the forward flavors mature too much further. For the year, there is good depth and delineation, but even the Salvionis aren't miracle workers. Production is 10,000 bottles, down sharply from the 16-17,000 that are more of the norm here. Today, it looks like there will be no Rosso in 2012, 2013 or 2015.HK$2,760.00 -

The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine for readers who want to get a good sense of the Salvioni house style. Powerful and virile, with tons of personality, the 2016 is terrific. Grilled herbs, smoke, tobacco, licorice and menthol wrap around a core of dark Sangiovese fruit in this brooding, intense Rosso from the Salvioni family. The savory qualities of Sangiovese come through beautifully here. This is such a gorgeous Rosso.HK$3,950.00 -

The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is an intense, racy wine. Readers will find a rich, textured Rosso that captures all the power of the year. The volatile acidity is on the higher side, which is not unusual for traditionally made wines, but it is something readers who are especially sensitive should be aware of. There is no shortage of personality or character, though, that much is clear, but a full appreciation of the Salvioni 2017 Rosso requires a forgiving palate. Both bottles I tasted showed similarly.HK$2,070.00 -

Medium bright red. Candied raspberry, blueberry, and flowers on the nose and in the mouth. Suave but still youthfully tight, vibrant and perfumed on the long steely finish. A bright Rosso that finishes clean and seamless, featuring terrific cut and length.HK$3,325.00 -

The darkly alluring 2019 Rosso di Montalcino captivates, as crushed ashen stone and balsam herbs give way to plum sauce and a hint of sweet mint. Its textures are like velvet yet lifted, with a tactile mix of sour cherries and ripe strawberries over a salty core of stimulating acids and minerals. The 2019 finishes structured, impossibly long and spicy, leaving a staining of primary concentration under an air of purple-toned inner florals. This is just an infant today with the potential for greatness. Frankly speaking, many producers would be lucky to be bottling a Brunello of this Rosso’s caliber.HK$2,915.00 -

The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is perfumed and intense with masses of crushed rose petals, cloves, rosemary and tart cherry. This is elegance personified, so silky and polished, with a pleasant inner sweetness all nicely balanced by crunchy red berries and minty herbal tones that frame the experience perfectly. This finishes with a primary staining of concentration and a coating of rounded tannins that promise a broad and open drinking window. The 2020 Rosso is a total knockout and aims to please.HK$3,705.00 -

The excellent Salvioni 2021 Rosso di Montalcino La Cerbaiola offers very smooth balance with forthcoming aromas of red fruit, dried cherry and pressed violet or lilac. There is a good duality here between primary fruit and delicate floral nuances. The mouthfeel is crisp and tight, with a focused approach that sets this wine up for chicken or pork roast. This Rosso stands out for its jovial character.HK$1,225.00 -

Rose petals and dried cherries give way to flowery underbrush and savory spice as the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino slowly unwinds in the glass. Pure and lifted in style, this boasts a core of vividly ripe red berry fruits that swirl beneath an air of violet inner florals. Saline mineral tones mount through the close. Blood orange and spice hints linger as the 2022 tapers off long and gently tannic. This leaves the mouth salivating. Frankly, it's hard to just taste and not drink the 2022 Rosso from Salvioni.HK$3,325.00 -

The 2023 Rosso di Montalcino is wonderfully unique compared to past vintages. A burst of strawberry and cherry meets complementary nuances of rose petal, dusty earth and leather strap. This stands out for its acidity, intense but the perfect counterbalance to its tart berry fruits and mineral saturation. A stern tug of tannin adds edginess toward the close. This comes across as wiry and structured but juicy. It will show lots of early appeal if paired with the right meal, but its old-school poise tempts me to cellar it for another three to five years. Having tasted this, I'm extremely excited to see what the Brunello from this vintage will yield.HK$2,505.00 -

Aromas of bark, spices, sandalwood, and lavender, as well as joyous ripe fruit. Full-bodied, round and powerful with an impressive backbone of tannins and length. Needs at least three to four years to soften. Try in 2021.HK$2,445.00 -

The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio di San Felice is an extrovert. A blast of dark fruit, leather, incense, scorched earth, tobacco and dried flowers conveys virile intensity right out of the gate. In my mind, the two Il Grigios (Riserva and Gran Selezione) are not that different. The Gran Selezione was aged in 70% cask and 30% 500-litre French oak barrels.HK$1,620.00 -

The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso is just as impressive as it was last year. Plush contours give the 2020 its racy, effusive personality. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and a kiss of French oak race out of the glass. This sumptuous Gran Selezione has a ton to offer, starting with its undeniably alluring personality.HK$2,820.00 -

Very dark ruby-garnet. Spicy, serious nose shows substantial vanilla and chocolate from the oak. Rich, dense and concentrated, with a point of acidity refreshing the berry fruit. Finishes with solid tannins and a slight bitterness.HK$2,005.00 -

This is a historic Tuscan wine, with the first vintage produced in 1968. The San Felice 2016 Vigorello is a blend of the Tuscan indigenous grape Pugnitello, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It offers depth, intensity and a profound level of dark fruit with blackberry, plum, spice, earth and campfire ash. Robust and softly textured, it has the length and power to pair with a juicy leg of lamb with white beans and rosemary potatoes. An ample 40,000 examples of this lovely vintage were made.HK$2,965.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is fleshy and forward, with plenty of sweet red stone fruit, macerated cherry, tobacco, spice and plum fruit. The extracted style and accompanying imposing tannins are a bit much for the wine's mid-weight structure. The 2011 is quite ripe and intense, yet the tannins are not fully mature, which suggests heat stress may have been an issue during the torrid second half of August. I would prefer to drink the 2011 sooner rather than later, as the fruit is likely to fade before the tannins soften. Hints of crushed flowers, sweet tobacco and red flowers add the closing shades of nuance. The 2011 was aged in a combination of tonneau and 30-HL casks.HK$4,815.00 -

The opulence and decadence is really something here with dried fruit, figs, meat and black truffles on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, layered and creamy with intense, round tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Best after 2022, but already a joy to taste.HK$5,523.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucere emerges from the estate's oldest vines. Here the balance of fruit and tannin is much more successful. Sensual and layered in the glass, the Lucere offers good up-front richness to match its creamy, inviting personality. Generous black cherry, plum, smoke, spice and menthol flesh out on a resonant finish laced with attractive aromatic overtones. In this vintage, the oak and tannins are very nicely balanced, something that hasn't always been the case here. At times, the ripeness of the vintage is a bit dominant, but this is a gorgeous wine from San Filippo.HK$1,270.00 -

This red is laden with balsamic aromas and flavors of juniper, rosemary and rose, plus black currant and raspberry fruit. Planted in 1997, La Lucère is encircled by forest on three sides. The breezy, east-facing site is relatively cool and always the estate’s last to be harvested. Aged in lightly toasted barriques and tonneaux, 20% new, the 2018 is the most elegantly sculpted and effortlessly balanced wine I have tasted from the estate. It opens with attractive scents of cinnamon, violet and rosemary, and boasts impressive concentration of woodland berry flavours but isn’t heavy. Integrated acidity provides proper support, and the tannins are long and fine, giving texture and shape. The best is still yet to come.HK$2,210.00 -
