These wines boast flavors of red fruit, floral notes, earthy undertones, and firm tannins. Veneto, renowned for its sparkling Prosecco wines, is also famous for Amarone della Valpolicella. Vineyards like Allegrini and Quintarelli produce exceptional Amarone wines with concentrated flavors of dark fruit, spices, and a velvety texture. Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, offers a different yet captivating expression of Italian wines. Vineyards like Planeta, Donnafugata, and Tasca d'Almerita craft remarkable wines from indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese. These wines exhibit intense fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and a unique volcanic minerality.

  • Francesco Rinaldi Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata 2018 (6x75cl)

    Crafted in the prestigious vineyards of Francesco Rinaldi, the Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata 2018 is an Italian jewel of oenology. This Barolo, acclaimed worldwide, boasts of illustrious origins in the Piedmont region, ardently nourished by robust, clay-rich soils. The grape variety, Nebbiolo, lends it a bold character and complexity.

    Impeccably manicured by renowned winemaker, Luciano Rinaldi, this vintage salutes the house's rich history dating back to 1870. This process provides it a fascinating blend of power and finesse, accentuated by an intriguing spicy palate.

    Vinous (94)

    The 2018 Barbaresco is elegant, classy and polished. This gracious, mid-weight Barbaresco from Francesco Versio offers tons of sheer appeal. Sweet spice and floral top notes lend a very pretty aromatic upper register. There is a feeling of translucence here that is especially alluring. The 2018 is beautifully done. It should drink well for another decade, give or take. It's an impressive wine, to say the least.

  • Fratelli Alessandria Barolo San Lorenzo 2018 (1x150cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17++)

    A shade darker than their Del Comune di Verduno and with a firmer nose of cherry and raspberry with plenty of depth. Ripe and deep. Hints of mint and cardamom, but not from new oak as this has seen only large casks. Elegant and sappy cherry fruit palate with firm, finely chiselled tannins which never dominate the fruit. Succulent and with a fine, long, tannic grip on the finish.

    Wine Advocate (90+)

    I absolutely have a soft spot for the Pelaverga grape that achieves such beautiful, but unusual, characteristics when given the chance. The 2018 Verduno Pelaverga Speziale is a happy and cheerful wine destined for easy-drinking occasions like with pizza or wood-fire flatbread with spicy sausage and broccoli. Native to Verduno in Piedmont, the grape typically shows a strong layer of freshly milled white pepper. That's exactly what you get in this cool and balanced vintage. This is a lean-bodied red to drink within the next 18 months.

  • Frescobaldi Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

    The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is dusty and floral on the nose, with a mix of dried black cherries, shaved cedar and wild flowers forming its inviting bouquet. This is round, almost juicy in feel, with cooling mineral tones and brisk acidity that maintains an unexpectedly energetic character, as tart wild berry fruits slowly saturate. The 2018 finishes with grippy tannins, yet also surprisingly fresh, leaving nuances of red licorice to slowly taper off. This really took me by surprise, as I’m so accustomed to Castelgiocondo being such a brooding and powerful wine in its youth, but that is the magic of the 2018 vintage.

  • Gaja Gaia & Rey 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

    The 2018 Gaia & Rey offers up a whole range of tropical and orchard fruit flavors, showing an extra kick of creaminess that is surprising given the cool vintage and the decision to fully block the malolactic fermentation. Passion fruit, pastry, spice and a kick of well-judged oak build nicely in the glass. The 2018 finishes with lovely tension and energy.

  • Gaja Langhe Alteni Brassica 2018 (12x75cl)

    The 2018 Alteni di Brassica offers a striking balance of varietal character and textural silkiness. It is perhaps a bit less assertive than the 2019 tasted alongside it (not in a bad way), but also creamier and a bit more generous. Clean mineral and white flower notes support the finish.
