Vinous (90)The 2023 Soave Classico is highly expressive and can be sensed over two feet from the glass. Swirling releases further depths of white flowers, candied lime, crushed green apples and hints of vanilla bean. It is energetic and supple with depths of tactile mineral tones and a core of saline-infused white pit fruits. This tapers off on a savory note, mixing green melon and hints of spice while leaving the palate completely refreshed. |

Wine Advocate (94)Celebrating its 50th anniversary (1971-2021), the organic Pieropan 2021 Soave Classico Calvarino has a soft and richly textured side that is contrasted against the bright citrusy and mineral flavors that the Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes are known for. This blend sees 70% of the first grape and 30% of the second, and the wine is aged in cement for up to 15 months. That's the special quality offered by Calvarino, a wine that is modern yet also rooted in local tradition. You get a lot of food-pairing potential out of this bottle, whether it be sushi or roasted chicken. Production is 70,000 bottles. |

Vinous (94+)Intense and nearly salty in character, the 2022 Soave Classico Calvarino opens with an array of crushed stones, savory herbs and citrus-inflected nectarines. It blends savory and sweet with a zesty core of acidity to balance, as vividly ripe orchard fruits mix with crunchy mineral tones throughout. Dramatically long and full of tension, the 2022 leaves the palate buzzing and craving another saline sip. Cellaring will likely reveal even more. |

James Suckling (95)Aromas of chamomile, dried pineapple, preserved lemon, toasted almond and beeswax. It’s medium-to full-bodied with tangy acidity. So concentrated, layered and phenolic. Keeps going. Yet, it remains agile and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. |

James Suckling (94)Very ripe Soave here with aromas of dried pineapple, honeycomb, pecan pie, light toffee and a wealth of fresh and dried flowers flitting around the edges. Medium-to full-bodied with a lovely, long palate of fruit syrup and caramel. Seamless, tasty and long. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. |

James Suckling (96)The only oak-inflected cuvee at the estate. Aged in 100% used tonneaux, both French and Slavonian. Superb aromas of pistachios, peaches and dried mangoes. Broad and expansive, yet funneled into a vortex of tension by freshness that sublimates any sense of obvious power. A wonderful expression of a warmer vintage that suits perfectly this compelling site. Drink or hold. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98+)The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is rich in aromatics of black raspberry, menthol, sage, and lavender. It is fruit forward upfront, with pure cherry fruit, balsamic, and black tea with classically structured tannins and acidity that lifts off the palate and a long finish. It was aged for 6 months in tonneaux followed by two years in large barrels. Cellar 2-4 years and enjoy 2024-2036. |

Vinous (90+)Good bright medium red. Plum, redcurrant, strawberry, mint, spices, earth and dried flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of leather. Tactile and rich, displaying good medicinal reserve to the flavors of red fruits, chocolate and herbs. Shows a slight dryness with air but this is not particularly austere. With its depth of flavor and dusty tannins, this is built to age. |

Vinous (93)The Pio Cesare 2012 Barbaresco Il Bricco emerges from the best blocks of the house's estate vineyard in Treiso. A powerful, dense wine, the Bricco is endowed with real depth and the greater textural richness that comes from a bit riper fruit and 36 months in barrel. A host of dark red cherry, plum, mint and licorice notes take center stage as this bold, racy Barbaresco shows off its alluring personality. The Bricco sees a bit more time in small French oak barrels than the straight Barbaresco, and that comes through in both the wine's flavor profile and textural feel. |

Vinous (95)The 2017 Barbaresco Il Bricco captures all of the natural intensity of this Treiso site, but in a less forced style than in the recent past, which is a very positive development for this historic house. Readers will find a potent yet well balanced Treiso Barbaresco that hits all the right notes. Macerated cherry, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol build into the potent finish. The 2017 is just gorgeous. |

Vinous (94)The 2018 Barbaresco Il Bricco is a worthy follow-up to the stellar 2017. Menthol, licorice, gravel, incense and a range of deeply-pitched spice notes open first, but it is the wine's overall depth that I find especially alluring. Racy and complex, yet so refined, the 2018 has a ton to offer. Best of all, it can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. It's a gorgeous Barbaresco that captures the essence of Treiso. |

Vintage Tastings (93)had a sandy and leathery nose with sweet Burgundian fruit. Yarom noted how 'it looks and smells like Burgundy,' and there were many similarities. Aromas of rose, nuts and sweet tar pointed towards Nebbiolo. Its palate was very mature with a slaty, soft finish. Its fruit was leathery, beefy and sweet in those regards. There were no tannins left, just fruit and acidity, and that was ok. Still balanced and beautifully smooth and tasty, there were traces of cigar, chocolate, smoke and tar to this deliciously mature Nebbiolo |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2010 Barolo is a great fall back wine for those who want to know the flavor profile of a classic, well-made Barolo. This is a textbook wine, especially in the exceptional 2010 vintage. Black fruit and prune is folded together with delicate tones of cigar ash, crushed mineral, licorice, white truffle and dried raspberry. The tannins are firm, but polished and the wine leaves a lasting imprint of dark fruit and cola on the elegant finish. Drink: 2016-2028. |

Wine Advocate (95)The Pio Cesare 2013 Barolo offers all of the plentiful qualities that make this such a memorable vintage. Because the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). Starting in 2015, Monforte d'Alba fruit will be added. The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola. It is executed in a very traditional style with botte grande and a tiny part barrique to give the wine a tad more oxygen during its integration and aging process. |

James Suckling (94)Bright and complex with licorice, tar and rose petals. Hints of plums, too. Medium to full body and chewy, round tannins. Plenty of dried meat, spices and berries. A pretty finish. Shows intensity for the vintage. Already very pretty but drink in 2020. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)The 2016 Barolo has resinous aromas of pine, dried wild strawberry, and dried herbs. The palate reveals ripe cherry fruit that is persistent on the mid-palate, with firm, angular tannic grip, dried herbs and balsamic. Hold in the cellar 2-5 years and drink 2024-2046. |

Susan Hulme MW (96)2019 is shaping up to be a great vintage in Barolo and this Pio Cesare Barolo is a delightful example. The 2019 Pio Cesare Barolo has a very immediate and appealing nose..it has a beautiful, melting texture and super refined, perfectly ripe tannins. It is a classic Barolo in the old tradition of blending grapes from several different vineyard sites, in this case, three vineyards in Serralunga (Ornato, La Serra and Briccolina) as well as sites in La Morra, Grinzane Cavour, Novello and Monforte. Among the sweet red fruit and spice is a little twist of iron and a distinctive mineral note which evokes the Ornato vineyard and adds an extra dimension. This 2019 Barolo has such an appealing, outgoing and charming personality but also the power to last. I particularly like the transformation that has taken place with the tannins – they now glide gracefully across the palate. |
