Castellare di Castellina
Castellare was formed from five farms in 1968. Owned by Paolo Panerai, it is located in Castellina in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. It is a haven for wildlife with no synthetic chemicals or hunting allowed. Their labels bear images of rare birds seen on the estate. The vineyards are some of the highest in the region. They maintain committed to traditional Tuscan grapes, mostly Sangiovese, in very low yields giving their wine more concentrated flavours and aromas.

Vinous (98)The 2015 I Sodi di San Niccolò is just stratospheric. That's pretty much all there is to it. Plush, deep and explosive, the 2015 possesses magnificent depth. The 15% Malvasia Nera gives tannic backbone and energy to balance the wine's natural richness. Sweet red cherry, cedar, smoke, tobacco and licorice build in a racy, flamboyant Sodi that hits all the right notes. In a word: stunning! |

Vinous (95)The 2015 Rocca di Frassinello is powerful, sumptuous and deeply expressive. An exotic mélange of raspberry jam, spice, new leather, chocolate, tobacco and grilled herbs gives the 2015 its decidedly flamboyant personality. This rich, heady coastal Tuscan red will appeal most to readers who enjoy racy, bold wines. The oak needs to settle down, but there is certainly plenty to look forward to. |
