Domaine Georges Noellat
About Domaine Georges Noellat
Only in his early 20s, Maxime Cheurlin was marked for stardom from his very first vintage in 2010 and has achieved considerable success already. Taking over the Domaine from his grandmother, situated next door to Sylvain Cathiard, the wunderkind produces complex and delicate wines.
Maxime is the nephew of the Jayer family and a cousin of Guillaume Rouget (son of Emmanuel Rouget) who trained with legendary Henri Jayer. Maxime worked at Rouget in 2009 and Gros Frere & Soeur in Vosne Romanee in 2008. Maxime’s style is modelled somewhat after Rouget’s, with a focus on clarity and a pronounced influence of new oak.
Viniculture
De-stemming completely the grapes (except for 20% for the Echezeaux), he intends to give the wines an outstanding purity. His wines are elegant yet exhibit good power and poise with a good progression of quality and style from the villages-level up to the Grands Crus. The character of the vintage comes through as well with the wines tasting surprising forward from the barrel. These will age well in cellar but also pleasantly enjoyable at every stage in their development.

Wine Advocate (92-94)
Matured in 60% new oak, the 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras has an opulent bouquet with blueberry and black cherry fruit soaring from the glass, the oak neatly integrated, although I detected just a little warmth here that detracted from the delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin. There is clearly a solid backbone to this Nuits Saint Georges that lends it a Morey-Saint-Denis-like personality. There is ample blackberry and raspberry notes infused with white pepper and sage, fanning out in confident fashion towards the detailed finish. This is a sturdy and forthright 2015 that will drink beautifully over 15-20 years. This wine is superb.HK$6,295.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
Bright, dark red. Attractive lift to the raspberry and floral aromas; this could hardly be more different from the village Gevrey. At once dense and creamy-sweet, conveying very good energy to the dark berry and floral flavors. Finishes bright and long, with substantial ripe, dusty tannins. Cheurlin produced just 29 hectoliters per hectares here, owing to the estate's high percentage of old vines.HK$8,935.00 -
Vinous (93)
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a cohesive, focused bouquet of pure red cherries, bergamot and undergrowth scents and nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin and well-judged acidity. Touches of spice and blood orange toward the sustained finish complete a really quite joyful 2015 Burgundy. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.HK$12,355.00
