Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

Wine Advocate (95)Produced from purchased grapes, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is serious and structured, enforcing a change of pace after the series of Puligny-Montrachet grands crus. Mingling notes of pear and citrus oil with hints of toasted bread, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and chalky, with palpable structuring dry extract and tangy balancing acids. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)In 2021 the Boillot Corton-Charlemagne is all from Aloxe and not the three communes. Mid lemon yellow. The nose has some style, flesh and floral and potentially stony. More wood is showing at the back but there is so much wine still to come out. Lemon juice intensity at the back. Very long again Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022 |

Jancis Robinson (18)Cask sample. Spicy, mealy oak on first impression. Hint of struck match and intense limey fruit. Powerful, concentrated yet already harmonious in youth. Intense and very long. Real grand cru quality. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is fabulous. Bright and effusive, with terrific depth, the 2023 captures all the energy that is typical of the best Charlemagnes. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, chamomile, dried flowers and tangerine oil race across the palate. The Charlemagne is often one of the best wines here, as it is again in 2023. It’s certainly a highlight. |

Wine Advocate (94)Aromas of orange oil, honeycomb, ripe pears, wheat toast and paraffin wax introduce the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's fleshy and enveloping but underpinned by an impressively chalky structure that brings unusual tension and grip to this inherently generous terroir. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)Exceptionally concentrated, indeed super saturated purple, with massive weight on the nose. There is also a huge weight of fruit to the back of the palate. While the wine from En Orveaux lacks the dainty detail which Echezeaux can have, it offers graceful muscle instead. |

Burghound (94)A deft touch of wood sets off markedly spicy aromas of dark berry fruit coulis, sandalwood and exotic tea. The nicely concentrated and quite stylish flavors are at once caressing but punchy with a lovely texture on the balanced and lingering finish that flashes a touch of austerity. This too could use better depth, but more will almost certainly develop in time given the quality of the underlying material. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru is powerful yet not fully developed. There's good energy throughout, that much is evident, but the mid-palate needs to fill out a bit more. It will be interesting to see if that happens in bottle, as the wine I tasted was at the end of its elevage in barrel. Dark red fruit, gravel, spice, leather and game lend quite a bit of darkness to this Echezeaux, which emerges from a parcel in La Combe d'Orveau. - Antonio Galloni |

Wine Advocate (95)One of the high points of the range is the 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, a striking wine that exhibits scents of cassis, forest floor, wild berries, dark chocolate, warm spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping but also beautifully defined, with a bright spine of acidity, it's concentrated and penetrating. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2022 Meursault Clos Richemont 1er Cru is a dense, opulent white built on texture more than anything else. It is one of the most overt wines in the Boillot range. Orange jam, spice, vanillin, lemon confit and baked apple tart infuse the 2022 with tons of textural intensity. This is such a distinctive wine. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)A fine even lemon yellow. Racy on the nose, not as immediately distinguished as Goutte d’Or but the qualities creep up on you. More linear, a suggestion of salinity., with layers of a pure limestone white fruit, plenty of dry extract affirms Henri Boillot. Very persistent. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Oct 2024. |

Burgundy | 1 | 93 (BH) | HK$9,925.00 | |||||
Burghound (93)(Outstanding) Here there is enough post-bottling reduction to largely mask the nuances of the more floral-suffused aromas. As is typically the case, there is more refinement but less size, weight and power to the delicious and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors that display excellent length on the citrus-tinged finale. This youthfully austere effort will require at least a few years of patience, but it should be well worth the wait. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières reveals aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, peach, spring blossom, honeycomb and praline, followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated palate that's chalky and structured, built around lively acids and appreciable dry extract. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2022 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is a complex, dynamic wine. I especially admire its focus. Pear, slate, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all hover across the palate in a Meursault that marries fruit richness with layers of depth and explosive energy. In other words, classic Genevrières. The 2022 is quite reticent today, but I take that as a positive sign for the future. What a gorgeous wine this is. |

Burghound (94)An overtly spicy and pure nose is comprised by cool notes of white peach, pear, acacia blossom and mineral reduction. The middle weight flavors are not quite as concentrated or powerful as those of the Poruzots but they are notably more refined with the minerality suggested by the nose confirmed on the palate and in particular on the borderline painfully intense and persistent finish that is saline almost to the point of being salty. This is textbook Perrières that should age effortlessly for years to come. Highly recommended. |
