France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

The 1996 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru puts in a splendid performance. Quite deep in colour (like many Pinots this vintage), it has a bewitching and precise bouquet with dark cherries, crushed stone, iris and oyster shells, gaining more and more delineation as it opens in the glass. The palate is very focused, fresh and vibrant, hints of Earl Grey infusing the red fruit and silky smooth in texture. It displays the femininity of this vineyard, precise and shimmering with energy on the finish. This is a great showing and yet one can tell it has another two or three decades of pleasure to give. Tasted over dinner at Oswald's in London.HK$259,840.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94)
At first this wine showed the spiky character of the 1998 vintage , both on the nose and with slightly discordant acidity on the palate. However the fruit began to take over and the acidity to integrate, resulting in a refined, classy wine that is still tightly coiled, but will certainly get there in due course.HK$178,510.00 -

This displays a positively classic nose of soaring Asian spices, ripe plum and a gamut of ripe, pure and lacy red and black fruits with the latter predominating all wrapped together with a seductive kiss of sweetly scented, highly perfumed violets; the nose is, in a word, intoxicating. All of this aromatic intensity leads to remarkably powerful, linear and still taut flavors that show simply unbelievable complexity and stunning length. This will very likely surpass every other RSV from the Domaine in recent memory from a sheer aromatics perspective as the nose really is dazzling. For my taste this has just about arrived at the front end of its peak drinkability though it should hold easily for years to come. Consistent notes save for one bottle that seemed a bit edgy and drying and not at all like what I have described above.HK$32,395.00 -

(1x150cl) 2002Vinous (95+)
Medium red with a palish rim. Very sexy aromas and flavors of cherry, dried rose, cinnamon and herbs. Not an opulent style but boasts terrific definition and energy to its strong cherry and berry flavors accented by pepper and leather. This very young, tight RSV needs either a few hours in a decanter or another 5+ years in the cellar. Will eventually go truffley and underbrushy but there's no sign of tertiary aromas today. Cellarmaster Bernard Noble noted that "there are some regrets about 2002: we could have waited another four or five days to pick. At this stage, our '02s show less flesh and more spirit."HK$77,360.00 -

The 2003 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a wine that I have not tasted since release. It acquits itself supremely well. Slightly deeper in hue than expected, it has a vibrant nose that brushes aside the notorious heat of that summer. Red fruit, candied orange peel, crushed stone and bay leaf are delineated and focused. The palate has excellent balance and tension. Quite finely-chiseled tannins lend this RSV a sense of symmetry, with tart sour cherries adding tension and vibrancy on the finish. Exquisite.HK$273,555.00 -

A delicious, flowery, aromatic wine. The flavors float around the firm core of fine tannins, plum skin and fig flavors, combining with acidity and leaving an impression of delicacy, yet also great aging potential.HK$29,545.00 -
Burghound (97)
An incredibly perfumed and supremely elegant if exceptionally ripe nose features notes of various black fruit scents that are replete with soy, hoisin, clove and anise nuances. There is outstanding power and richness to the refined, detailed and very firmly structured flavors that culminate in a precise, pure and driving finish that goes on and on. This is a really impressive effort that offers terrific potential but fans of this wine should note that it is arguably more masculine than it usually is yet at the same time utterly seamless. In sum this is arguably the finest RSV that the Domaine has ever produced.HK$29,035.00 -

Wine Spectator (96)
Seductive and open from barrel about a year ago, this is more reticent now, especially aromatically. Nonetheless, there's richness and a slow buildup of berry and cherry flavors, which turn more refined and satiny as this lingers on the finish.HK$25,290.00 -

A bottle of Romanée-St-Vivant 2009 over lunch was a superb counterpoint to our tasting of the 2020s, allowing us to see how another sunny vintage has evolved thirteen years from the harvest. The wine was voluptuous, with a lovely, ripe plummy fruit now developing savoury, earthy complexity. The texture is ripe and silky, opening now as the tannins recede, and the wine is expressive and beginning to show its potential, although it is still at the beginning of its evolution and will improve for decades to come. This wine is simply superb and just now coming into its own. 18,271 bottles produced.HK$31,315.00 -

The 2010 Romanée St. Vivant is dazzling. An exotic mosaic of sweet spices, red berries, dried flowers and mint bursts onto the palate in this viscerally thrilling, captivating Romanée St. Vivant. The 2010 is notable for so many attributes, but one that stands out is the sheer beauty and texture of the breathtaking finish.HK$103,890.00 -

A wine of pure silkiness, finesse and lyric beauty, the 2011 Romanée St.-Vivant graces the palate with dried rose petals, mint, violets and bright red berries, all supported by super-polished, crystalline tannins. Cool veins of underlying minerality support the precise, articulate finish. The 2011 is an introspective Burgundy built for the cellar, but it is drop-dead gorgeous.HK$91,075.00 -

An intense, almost exotic wine, the 2012 Romanée St.-Vivant takes the elements that make RSV such a distinctive site and simply amplifies all of them. Dense and yet also seamless on the palate, the 2012 RSV will need considerable time to shed its baby fat, but it is impressive just the same.HK$29,165.00 -

The 2013 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is still quite young, but it is drinking very nicely. Floral and lifted, with mid-weight, translucent structure, the 2013 expresses all of the understated finesse that is such a signature of this Grand Cru. Tea leaves, mint, dried flowers, cedar and blood orange weave through a core of red-toned fruit. Firm yet polished tannins extend the clean, bracing finish. Tasted next to the 2014, the 2013 is more aromatic and delicate in feel.HK$27,695.00 -

The 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru offers a stunning mix of RSV finesse and ripe, generous fruit. Dark red-toned fruit, blood orange, pomegranate and spice lend an exotic flair. Still quite young and wonderfully deep, the 2014 is magnificent. It's a Burgundy that offers a warm embrace. The 2014 can be enjoyed now, but it also has the depth and pedigree to develop beautifully in bottle for many years to come.HK$41,825.00 -

Bright, full red. Sensational perfumed nose shows a musky element of wildness along with aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, cocoa powder, brown spices and earth. A compellingly rich, horizontal wine that spreads out to coat every square millimeter of the palate. Quite firmly built--even a bit youthfully imploded--but this wine is already an attention-grabber. Finishes with a firm but refined dusting of tannins and outstanding rising length.HK$34,045.00 -
