France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

The 2015 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Corvées Pagets, one of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux's emblematic wines, wafts from the glass with a complex bouquet of plums, candied peel, violets and raspberries. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and complete, with a deep core of fruit, crystalline purity, and fine-grained but chalky tannins. Structurally, this is classic Premeaux.HK$64,210.00 -

The 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Corvées Pagets is also quite youthfully reticent at this stage, unwinding in the glass with a lovely bouquet of raspberries, dark chocolate, candied peel and rose petal. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with considerable amplitude and dimension, its fine but chewy structuring tannins largely concealed by a vibrant core of fruit.HK$37,990.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Corvées Pagets 1er Cru is 100% whole bunches. It has a very intense bouquet of brambly red fruit, briar, wild heather and light crushed rock aromas; more tertiary scents (damp moss?) emerge with time. The medium-bodied palate features supple tannin and just a slight lactic tincture on the entry, layers of tart red fruit infused with minerals and even a cheeky hint of Turkish Delight on the finish. This feels very long and tender.HK$36,195.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Corvées Pagets 1er Cru comprises four barrels after being severely affected by hail. It has a rather stoic bouquet of introspective dark berry fruit mixed with black tea and damp earthy aromas. The medium-bodied palate delivers precise, filigreed tannins. That black tea element crops up again in the mouth, segueing into a subtle, brine-tinged finish that fans out gently. One of Lachaux’s most elegant wines this year.HK$7,870.00 -

Good bright, deep red. Reduced aromas of red berries, rust, tobacco and smoky oak. Nicely creamy on the palate, but with surprising acidity giving definition to the redcurrant and cherry fruit. The firm tannins avoid coming off as dry, but the wine will require some time to absorb its finishing kick of acidity.HK$33,420.00 -

A core of pure cherry resonates in this red, showing depth and precision. This is augmented by floral, spice and mineral accents, all integrated with the supple texture and dense structure. Shows fine length on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2025. 250 cases made. -BSHK$1,710.00 -

Bright medium red. Expressive, nuanced aromas of black cherry, leather, smoke, underbrush and pepper. Juicy and firmly built, showing good stuffing but little easy sweetness. Finishes ripely tannic and lightly saline, with excellent energy and a touch of youthful austerity. These vines are now almost 60 years of age, according to Clavelier.HK$58,380.00 -

A pretty and well-layered blend of both red and black pinot fruit is liberally laced with earth, spice and floral elements. The well-delineated and punchy middle weight flavors possess ample richness as well as very good volume before concluding in a slightly more powerful and complex finale.HK$58,380.00 -

(vinified with 40% whole clusters): Medium red. Fruit-driven aromas of red cherry and strawberry. The silkiest and thickest of these 2014s to this point but with plenty of energy and cut. Boasts a sexy stem component and finishes juicy and persistent, with plenty of ripe tannins. Charles Lachaux told me that he uses the whole-cluster fermentation to soften the structure of this wine and he predicts that it will make a nice drink in five years, earlier than past vintages.HK$2,205.00 -

The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Procès is shutting down, opening reluctantly in the glass to reveal aromas of red berries, grilled meat and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny but dense, with a deep, concentrated core and chalky structuring tannins. This will need more time than the comparatively precocious 2017 rendition.HK$4,730.00 -

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès, which includes 50% whole bunches, has a very feminine, pure red cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet that develops flinty scents with aeration. The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès has a complex bouquet featuring earthy and woodland aromas and touches of morels and black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins, and more compact than the Les Poisets, showing a touch of black pepper on the finish. The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès is comparatively stony on the nose, a little more austere on the nose, opening gradually with aeration, a mixture of red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more sinew on the entry than the Les Poisets, quite sappy towards the finish with a dash of white pepper and clove towards the harmonious finish. Very good persistence here, a wine that is deceptively approachable but it is worth cellaring.HK$9,255.00 -

There is a discreet floral hint adding a touch of elegance to the mix of earth red currant and dark raspberry aromas. The attractively textured and delineated medium-bodied flavors are shaped by relatively fine tannins for a Nuits villages, all wrapped in a lingering and solidly complex finish.HK$23,585.00 -

(a blend of eight vineyards): Bright medium red. Very dark aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, herbs and spices. A juicy, youthfully tight midweight with a firm spine of dusty tannins and sneaky persistence. (Incidentally, the 2014 Bourgogne Rouge showed sexy red fruit flavors in a round, juicy style and should offer early pleasure. )HK$24,845.00
