The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.

Coming all from the Maison Blanche lieu-dit, the 2019 Hermitage Blanche is based on 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne that spent two years in used barrels. It's a smoking value in Hermitage Blanc, offering classic notes of quince, honeyed minerality, buttered citrus, and green almonds. Rich and full-bodied, with a layered, opulent texture and a great finish, it's a no-brainer purchase that can be enjoyed any time over the coming decade, if not longer.HK$930.00 -

Deep ruby-red. Aromatic, vibrant aromas of red cherry, currant and dark chocolate. Wonderfully dense and palate-coating; this combines the thickness of the 2003 Joanin-Becot and the verve of the 2004. Sharply delineated flavors of blackberry, redcurrant and chocolate, lifted by mineral and minty nuances. Finishes broad and sweet, with lovely persistence. The crop level here was just 24 hectoliters per hectare, partly due to a green harvest in early July.HK$2,690.00 -
Vinous - Ian D'Agata (87-89)
Good bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate, along with some strong oak tones. At once dense and nicely aromatic, showing good breadth for the year but also the tougher tannins that characterize so many 2011s. Finishes with good length, though.HK$1,690.00 -

The 2016 Joanin Bécot has an agreeable blackberry and cedar bouquet with hints of blue fruit and Christmas cake. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannins, graphite-tinged black fruit and a slightly dry but weighty finish. It needs a couple of years to meld together, but I appreciate the balance of this Côtes de Castillon.HK$1,745.00 -

The 2017 Chateau Joanin Becot checks in as a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc from healthy yields of 35 hl/ha that spent 16 months in 50% new French ok. It has a juicy, forward, delicious style that offers lots of black cherry and mulberry fruit as well as plenty of earth, forest floor, and leafy herb aromas and flavors. This classic, elegant 2017 has terrific purity, bright acidity, a complex, layered style, and outstanding length. It's not a blockbuster but just classic all the way.HK$1,545.00 -

Juliette Bécot (also of Château Beau-Séjour Bécot in Saint-Émilion) has done great work in this vintage! The 2019 Joanin Bécot reveals an abundance of cassis, blueberry, flower and violet aromas overlaid with a nuance of graphite. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is perfectly balanced and framed by fine, controlled tannins and power. This wine made a significant impression on me.HK$1,990.00 -

Crafted by Juliette Bécot (from Beau-Séjour Bécot) and her team, the 2021 Joanin Bécot unveils its potential with a delightful, vibrant and dynamic profile, enriched with notes of cherries, dark wild berries, peonies and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, lively and gourmand, it’s seamless and supple with a vibrant, juicy core of fruit and an ethereal, saline finish. As usual, this overperforming estate from clay-limestone soils has produced a wine that punches above its weight, representing a significant and commendable achievement for a modest Castillon appellation.HK$830.00 -

The plot is top of the top in positioning .Clear mid yellow colour with a clear-cut bouquet, less opulent than the others, thus works really well for me. Fresher throughout while still clearly ripe, excellent mineral acidity, waves of flavour, harmonious and consistent. Bravo. Little lemon notes throughout keep it fresh. Long classy finish.HK$18,465.00 -

In bottle. A fraction paler and tighter on the nose, after bottling. A pretty trace of wood, a little touch of the exotic, the thicker texture of all Valentin's wines this year, generous yellow fruit, low but adequate acidity, no heat though and maybe a saline note to finish.HK$4,535.00 -
