France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Good deep, bright red. Musky aromas of briary red fruits, pepper, herbs and underbrush. Tight and a bit dry in the mouth, with good verve to its red fruit flavors but a less silky texture than the Suchots. Finishes with a firm mineral spine and a light peppery quality.HK$8,345.00 -

(100% vendange entier): Bright, dark red. Very ripe but rather brooding aromas of blueberry, licorice, violet and tropical dark chocolate. Then wonderfully perfumed and precise in the mouth, conveying an impression of thickness and inner-mouth tension without weight. The stems provide another dimension without dominating the wine's fruits and flowers. A spectacular example of 2015, not yet fleshy but very dense and seductively sweet. The bracing, mounting finish goes on and on. This wine will need many years of cellaring to unfold and yet it's easier to taste today than its 2016 sibling, as are most of these '15s.HK$7,135.00 -
(1x75cl) 2017Vinous (97)
The 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has an exquisitely-defined, focused bouquet of brambly red fruit, crushed stone and wilted rose petal. The palate is refined but powerful, with gently grippy tannins. There is a Richebourg-like backbone but Romanée-Saint-Vivant-like elegance toward the impressively long finish. This is a magnificent 2017 Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.HK$5,590.00 -
(3x75cl) 2019Vinous (95-97)
The 2019 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru comprises 40% whole bunch and 25% new oak because winemaker Géraldine Godot wanted less wood influence during élevage. That was an astute decision, because it renders a very seductive, pure and engaging bouquet of copious red cherries, kirsch and blueberry fruit laced with pressed violets that is très R.S.V. The palate is medium-bodied with a sensual, velvety-smooth entry, a mixture of red and black fruit and impressive volume, but it also delivers the luxuriant elegance you expect from this Grand Cru. Fans out wonderfully on the finish. Just a gorgeous, sensual Grand Cru.HK$25,385.00 -
Vinous (98)
The 2020 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has an expressive bouquet with fine delineation, redcurrant and raspberry fruit, hints of candied orange peel and just a little camphor. Yet there is a discreetness that I admire, and it unfolds wonderfully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, nicely detailed, fresh and marine-influenced. It is very harmonious; there's a very grandiose finish that lingers seductively. One of the best wines that I have ever tasted from the Domaine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.HK$6,740.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots is all about grace. Weightless, aromatically expressive and silky on the palate, the 2012 stands out for its feminine, graceful personality. Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco, licorice and leather meld into the generous, resonant finish. The Suchots is one of the least immediate wines in this range. Today it is contemplative and inward, but gorgeous all the same.HK$1,765.00 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots includes 100% whole cluster with 50% new oak. It has a refined, elegant, mild-mannered bouquet with pure raspberry preserve, cranberry and subtle tobacco scents that unroll with aeration, though never quite delivering the opulence synonymous with the premier cru. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle but insistent grip on the entry. In some ways, the whole bunch addition lends this structure and shifts it toward, say, a Malconsorts in style (not to suggest that is necessarily a bad thing!). Linear and precise, it will require 7 to 10 years in bottle to really show its best. The bottom line is that this is one of the finest Les Suchots that I tasted in 2016.HK$9,590.00 -

(12x75cl) 1990Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88+)
Medium red, with some brick at the rim. Lovely spicy, smoky, roasted plum nose, with nuances of underbrush —a dead ringer for Burgundy. Nicely concentrated roasted chestnut flavor, but somewhat austere, with acidity not completely integrated. Finishes firm and slightly tart, showing more acidity than tannins.HK$11,220.00 -
Wine Advocate (90)
With a medium dark ruby color, and a complex, kirsch, pain grille, smoky, deliciously complex and fruity nose, this fragrant wine offers a wealth of raspberry, currant, and cherry-like fruit. It is not a blockbuster, but rather, an elegant, multi-dimensional, round, velvety-textured wine with a lushness and sweetness of fruit that makes it irresistible. This is one of the more seductive wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-2012.HK$8,220.00 -

A Bordeaux that seems to have a Burgundian personality, L’Arrosée’s 2005 displays elegance and finesse, with sweet black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, hints of minerality and earth, but soft tannin, a lush, medium-bodied style, and impressive concentration, purity and overall texture. By no means a blockbuster (in a vintage that produced almost endless numbers of them), this wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 15-20 years.HK$7,070.00 -

Full red-ruby. Sexy aromas of redcurrant, spicecake, tobacco, loam, licorice and minerals. In a distinctly firm, structured style, with juicy acidity intensifying its dark berry and mineral flavors. But there's also good flesh and sweetness over this wine's firm spine. Spreads out nicely on the lingering finish.HK$2,875.00 -
