The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Rhône enthusiasts know how good the 2022 vintage is chez Sorrel, and the 2022 Hermitage is a superb rendition. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of violets, blackberries, smoke, spices, bay leaf and cedar, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textured with structured yet delicate tannins with a fleshy texture that's refined, pure and mineral.HK$1,205.00 -

Sorrel’s 2023 Hermitage was crafted from vines planted in the lieux-dits Les Bessards and Les Plantiers on granite soils. Vinified with 100% whole bunches and matured for 18 months, it was neither fined nor filtered. Despite being the most reductive wine in the cellar, it wafts from the glass with aromas of lilac, violet, pepper, dark berries and cassis mingled with licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s built around a seamless core of fruit supported by vibrant acidity. It has a tensile profile derived from whole clusters and is framed by velvety and fresh tannins, concluding with a long, ethereal finish. This is an exquisite wine that should age gracefully over the next two decades and beyond.HK$1,130.00 -

Green-gold. Candied fig, apple, pear, floral honey and cherry pit on the nose, complicated by a leesy element. Lush, velvety and deep, with rich peach and apricot flavors deepened by date and nougat tones. Wonderfully sweet, creamy and rich on the strikingly pure and long finish. This is 100% marsanne, from vines in Greffieux.HK$1,010.00 -
(6x75cl) 2015Vinous (91)
Pale gold. Ripe and expansive on the nose, displaying mineral-inflected lemon curd and poached pear scents and hints of anise, peach pit and sweet butter. Chewy and dry on the palate, offering concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors and a touch of nougat. Picks up a suave floral note with air and finishes very long and sappy, featuring a lingering mineral note and repeating pit fruit character.HK$4,880.00 -

Light, shimmering straw. Ripe pit fruits, lemon pith, beeswax and chamomile on the deeply perfumed nose, along with suggestions of honey and anise. Pliant and broad on the palate, featuring pear nectar, yellow peach and Meyer lemon flavors that become livelier on the back half. A smoky mineral note builds steadily on the energetic finish, which leaves a hint of bitter pear skin behind.HK$3,645.00 -

Using grapes from 100-year-old vines from the same name lieu-dit, the 2023 Hermitage Blanc Les Rocoules bursts from the glass with redolent verbena tea, wet stone, hay, jasmine and a slice of yellow apple. Crisp and intense, the full-bodied 2023 is yet another brilliant Les Rocoules in the making. It’s less punchy compared to the knock-out 2022, but outright delicious nonetheless. Like the traditional Hermitage Blanc from the same vintage, the 2023 Les Rocoules carries similarly stimulating, saline nuances on the expansive finish.HK$22,725.00 -

Glass-staining ruby. Hypnotic, explosive bouquet of black and blue fruits, cola, anise, violet and minerals. Weighty but almost shockingly lithe, with precise mulberry and boysenberry flavors and strong mineral and candied floral character. Becomes even sweeter on the finish, leaving strong floral and blue fruit notes in its wake.HK$9,225.00 -

A stunning, potentially profound effort, the 2009 Hermitage Le Greal (14.6% natural alcohol) is a 30 to 35-year wine. Terrific aromas of charcoal, roasted meats, blackberries, boysenberries, licorice and graphite jump from the glass of this full-bodied, unctuously textured, thick, concentrated wine. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following three decades.HK$1,650.00 -

Just a super wine, inky, dark in color, the wine meshes a mountain of tannin with a wave of earthy, stony, crisp, ripe, juicy fruit. Here, the tannins are ripe, but they strong, so you need to wait on this baby for at least 8-10 years.HK$2,280.00 -

Wow, this is inky in color, with just as much depth in flavor to match. The nose shows crushed rocks, smoke and dark, black fruits. On the palate, the wine is incredibly full-bodied, rich and intense, with a hint of saltiness to the tannins. Even with all this power, the wine is balanced, fresh and refined. The best since 2003, and it is probably even better. It will age for decades effortlessly.HK$1,540.00 -

I think it's the best vintage I've ever made', says Marc, and you can see why. It's 100% whole-bunch fruit, harvested at a yield of 25hl/ha from lieux-dits Les Greffieux and Le Méal. It has resinous rosemary notes on the nose, and it's so fresh, vibrant and full of energy. The palate is beautifully concentrated, with lovely berry acidity. It's a totally natural and unforced expression of Hermitage with real length and persistence. It has slightly softer tannins than the 2015, but is just as good. So refreshing and enlivening.HK$1,465.00 -

(used 228-litre cask, 17 casks this year, not had so many since 1999) deep robe. There is a bull’s blood intensity on the nose, concerted black fruits, black olives – it is sleek and profound, a real Child of the Night, is slinky, with most welcoming fruit beckoning you in. The palate engages with a wavy black fruit offer; the pleasure is sensaround, and there is naughty raciness in its svelte fruit. I find it has more hidden depths than 2017, is wholesome, and very, very persistent, flourishes on the close. It has subtleties, perhaps more than 2017, carries some Burgundian tendencies, most sexy fruit, silky and savoury, very long and sensuous. 14.1°. 2053-56 Nov 2018HK$1,375.00 -

An absolute blockbuster of an Hermitage that tastes like the blood of Syrah, the 2019 Hermitage Le Greal sports a saturated purple hue to go with insane aromatics of pen ink, smoked meats, burning embers, currants, and ground pepper. Massively concentrated, full-bodied, structured, and yet also flawlessly balanced, this legendary Hermitage is going to need a decade or more to get close to maturity, and I suspect it will have 40-50 years of overall longevity. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1961 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle tasted similar to this on release.HK$1,375.00 -

Even better, the 2020 Hermitage Le Gréal showed brilliantly, and this powerful, concentrated Hermitage is going to be one for the cellar. Revealing a dense purple hue as well as great aromatics of blackberries, new saddle leather, truffle, roasted herbs, and peppered meat, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, mouth-filling texture, building tannins, and a great finish. It's going to take a decade to hit maturity, but this brilliant Hermitage will have 30 years of longevity. Bravo!HK$1,755.00 -
