The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

(6x75cl) 2021Jancis Robinson (17)
Tasted straight after the 2022, the nose comes out of the glass more savoury, crunching with herb stems. A mycorrhizal scent, geosmin. And the wine is more delicate. Wild strawberries, sour cherry. High-wire acidity and very very slender, high-wire tannins. Fresh in a crushed-leaf fragrant way. Arcs high in the mid palate, but not with fruit. There is something more mineral stony at its core. Sucking on bitterness. Leaves the same imprint of texture as the 2022, perhaps even a little silkier, on the finish. Scarlet-line length.HK$1,740.00 -

Aromas of cherries and berries mingle with notions of licorice, spices and sweet soil tones to introduce the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine that's seamless and complete, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, sapid finish. Serious and compelling, it's a terrific effort from Mee Godard.HK$3,100.00 -
(6x75cl) 2022James Suckling (95)
This fleshy and well-structured Morgon has a great combination of ripeness and freshness, and the balance at the front of the medium-bodied palate is already spot on. Excellent concentration right through the very long, compact finish. Just beginning to open up. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.HK$1,335.00 -
Vinous (93)
Dark ruby. Mineral-inflected dark fruits on the deeply perfumed nose, along with incense, allspice and floral accents. Alluringly sweet and weighty on the palate, offering intense boysenberry and black raspberry flavors braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Slowly building tannins frame a very long, sappy finish that strongly echoes the floral and mineral notes.HK$950.00 -

The round, succulent and fleshy flavors also conclude in a dry and youthfully austere finale that offers noticeably better depth and persistence. Worth considering.HK$2,445.00 -

Now in tank, being fined. Pale lemon colour. Perfumed nose with a little sandalwood. Fresh plums, lots of energy, light youthful bitterness which will come out with the fining, very long finish for this level of appellation. Picked at the end after a few days gap. Tasted: December 2021HK$920.00 -

The 2015 Bourgogne Rouge has a pleasant crushed strawberry and red cherry nose that is candied in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, just a little coarseness on the finish, but another racking and it will be fine.HK$3,345.00 -

(negociant wine)) Good medium red. Currant, cherry, raspberry, flowers and mint on the rather delicate nose. The creamiest and broadest yet of these negociant offerings, displaying raspberry and spice flavors framed by a firm spine of acidity. Made from young vines in an early-ripening vineyard. Nicely horizontal and elegant on the sweet finish. Showing well.HK$1,650.00 -

The 1999 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a knockout vintage, surpassing both the '01 and '05 on this occasion. Brilliant, vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, wonderful mineralité and immense precision. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, harmonious, pliant and sensual, with a graceful finish that fans out nicely, even if it does not quite "kick on" in the glass like the '01. Tasted at the Méo-Camuzet dinner at Arbor in Hong Kong.HK$9,305.00 -
(12x75cl) 2010Vinous (93+)
Good medium red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, licorice, mocha, coffee and underbrush. Sweet, fine-grained and intense, with terrific clarity and lift to the flavors of black cherry, crushed stone, spices and mint. Tannins are substantial but smooth and horizontal. The wine's savory, perfumed, very long finish really titillates the taste buds. This will need a good decade of cellaring.HK$45,125.00
