France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-99)5 Star Wine. Picked 28th September. A rich, indeed sumptuous purple. Exceptionally youthful bouquet with a little touch of new wood. A magical wine, which is entirely in balance. It is not just the concentration which moves to another level but the sublime and effortless suavity of texture. All in pure red fruit, nothing dark, my favourite alpine strawberries, but a host of other berries as well. Magical. |

Burghound (94-97)(from 3 different parcels that total 1.85 ha). This is the most floral wine in the range with a huge array of such elements adding elegance to the poached plum, dark currant, smoked game, exotic tea and moderate wood aromas. The gorgeously textured, mineral-driven and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors possess a Zen-like harmony on the superbly long, complex and built-to-age finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is potentially spectacular and a wine that should amply reward 15 to 20 years of aging. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin is a haunting wine graced with exquisite aromatics and layers of silky fruit. This is all class and elegance. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume and sweetness all the way through to the finish. There is a level of textural brilliance and finesse here that is just plain gorgeous. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru contains around 60% whole bunches. It has a divine bouquet, so pure and bewitching with pressed violet tinged black cherry and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent black fruit. The 50% new oak is nicely integrated, firming up towards a foursquare and quite masculine finish that should see it age for up to 20 years. Great potential. |

Vinous (96)The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru shows some clever use of stem, quite focused and well-defined, wonderful Pinoté here, very fragrant and floral. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins, fresh and quite saline with a vibrant, animated finish that has impressive sapidity for the vintage. There is a beguiling sense of completeness here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |

Wine Advocate (94-96)Notes of rose petals, orange rind, cassis, rich soil tones and raw cocoa preface Trapet's 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, elegantly sumptuous and enveloping wine that's deep and complete, with lively acids, velvety tannins and a long, saline finish. As I've observed before, this derives exclusively from holdings located in lieu-dit En la Chapelle. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru offers very pure red berries, undergrowth and rose petal scents on the nose, fresh and ethereal in style. This is very...persuasive. The palate is beautifully-defined, the 80% whole bunch impacting freshness and salinity, filigree tannins with an abundance of tension on the finish. Class from start to finish. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, the first Grand Cru to be picked with 50% whole clusters, has a fragrant, pure and (unlike Latricières) inviting bouquet that just wants to seduce. Very sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins that frame the crystalline red fruit, supreme mineralité with one of the most elegant finishes you will find in this vintage. Reminiscent of Dugat's Chapelle-Chambertin, this is divine. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Alea 1er Cru has a lively bouquet with harmonious, pure brambly red fruit, touches of allspice and clove emerging with time. The palate has a peppermint note on the entry, fine depth, gently grippy tannins and a touch of spice on the solid finish. This is cruising along nicely. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin La Petite Chapelle 1er Cru, blended with 80% whole bunch, has a tightly-wound bouquet with crushed stone infusing the blackcurrant and raspberry scents, a nuanced Earl Grey scent percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, finely-chiselled tannins, very good weight with just a hint of menthol that enhances the finish. |

Wine Advocate (90-92)There are around 30 barrels of Trapet's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a lovely wine that mingles notes of wild berries with hints of dark chocolate, exotic spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, it's deep and lively, with powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish. This derives from eight different parcels spread throughout the appellation. |

Burgundy | 1 | 93 (VN) | HK$2,100.00 | |||||
Vinous (93)The 2011 Latricières-Chambertin comes across as a bit wild in this vintage. Dried flowers, red cherries, smoke and tobacco take shape in the glass. The 2011 remains a bit linear at this stage, with terrific energy but less obvious fruit than the other Grand Crus. |
