France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, which includes around 20% to 25% whole bunch fruit, has a very elegant, restrained bouquet that just lets the blackberry and raspberry fruit flow from the glass, the oak neatly integrated and not imposing. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. Again, I appreciate the purity of fruit, the finesse and the charm of this Vosne-Romanée. There is plenty of crunchy red berry fruit on the finish and a pinch of spice. Super bon, as they say in France. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a tightly wound, slightly earthy bouquet with scents of kirsch, blueberry and violet, quite showy but kept on a tight leash. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, gentle grip and quite a dense, minerally finish that lingers in the mouth. There is a discreet confit element here. Good potential, because you can feel the energy. |

Vinous (92)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an open, expressive bouquet of cranberry, wild strawberry and rose petal aromas, perhaps not quite as precise as the nascent 2019. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, slightly tarry black fruit and quite a persistent residue of cracked black pepper. |

Vinous (92-94)Matured in 50% new oak, the 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a complex bouquet of red currant, crushed strawberry, licorice and light floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and lightly spiced with touches of cracked black pepper toward the grainy finish. More masculine than other Vosne cuvées, it will require 4–5 years to show its best. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru is very expressive on the nose with raspberry, briary and a touch of crushed stone, hints of orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite strict towards the finish but with commendable length. Fine, but this will need 4-6 years in bottle. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru seems a little oaky on the nose, which is occluding the terroir compared to others tasted on my travels. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, black rather than red fruit with a slightly toasty finish. This feels a bit short overall. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96)5 Star Wine. One of the deeper purple colours. There is a significant weight of fruit, and it is clean enough. This is in the very opulent super-ripe fruit whole bunch style. Still needs time for the future path to become clear. A little dryness at the back and some pepper with blood orange notes in the mix. Very long, with some dark pepper notes. Drink from 2033. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Petit Monts 1er Cru has a wonderful, pure, elegant bouquet of vivid red berry fruit infused with perfumed rose petals; hints of orange blossom emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, very harmonious and superbly structured, with seamlessly integrated oak. Who made the best Les Petit Monts this vintage? Hands up... Yes, it's you, Maxime Chuerlin. |

Wine Advocate (88-90)The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village was not really touched by the frost, according to winemaker Maxime Chuerlin. The bouquet is well defined with brambly red fruit, touches of tobacco and smoke in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine purity and fine structure on the finish. I like the personality of this Vosne-Romanée. It just seems to sing. |

Burghound (89-92)There is just enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background but not so much as to mask the pretty spice wisps. There is an equally seductive mouthfeel to the velvet-textured flavors that possess even better depth on the firm, palate coating and impressively persistent finish. This is an excellent Vosne villages that is worth your interest. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)Still in barrel like the rest below. Concentrated purple. Succulent yet with perfume. There is a fine tension to the dark fruit which cannot help offering its juicy dark raspberry aspect. Excellent weight on the palate, fine long aftertaste. Drink from 2028-2034. |

Vinous (93)Good deep red. Very sexy, soil-driven scents of plum, mocha, redcurrant, graphite and spices. Showing plenty of truffley underbrush but also superb inner-mouth energy and spice character to its plum and dark berry fruit. In a distinctly dark, earthy, almost austere style, finishing with dusty, fine, integrated tannins, hints of mint and plum, and terrific persistence. This wine is near its peak but there's still more to come. |
