Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2018 Lespault-Martillac is bright, punchy and full of character. I tasted the 2018 three times from barrel and never found it convincing. The bottled wine, on the other hand, is terrific. Inky red fruit, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal all open with time. The 2018 is not super complex, but it is silky, well-balanced and very easy to enjoy. Best of all, readers can enjoy it with minimal cellaring. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91-93)The 2020 Lespault-Martillac is plump, juicy and wonderfully expressive. Ripe red cherry/red plum, orange zest cinnamon and crushed flowers fill out the layers in a succulent, vibrant Lespault that will drink well right out of the gate. The 2020 is a wine of total allure. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-92)The 2021 Lespault-Martillac is packed with inky red/purplish fruit, spice and mocha. There's more Cabernet Sauvignon than usual in this year's blend, and that comes through in the wine's aromatic profile. The 2021 is not super complex, but it is supremely delicious and very easy to like. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)The 2019 Lestage-Simon is fabulous. A rush of dark red/black fruit, gravel, scorched earth, incense, leather and spice gives the 2019 its exuberant personality. All the elements are so nicely balanced in this racy, plush Haut-Médoc. Lestage-Simon is a major sleeper. |

Bordeaux | 20 | 90-92 (VN (NM)) | HK$1,185.00 | |||||
Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2020 Lestage Simon has good intensity on the nose, featuring cedar- and tobacco-infused black fruit that displays commendable intensity and delineation. The medium-bodied palate offers grainy tannins and crisp acidity. Very classic in style, with a grippy, slightly oaky finish. There is a boldness to this Haut-Médoc that I appreciate, but cellar it for 3-4 years. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (87-89)The 2021 Lestage Simon has quite a dense bouquet with blackberry, briar and light scorched earthy scents. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quit compared and grippy, with just about sufficient fruit to keep everything balanced on the finish. It will require a prudent barrel maturation. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-92)80% whole bunches. Mid purple, not the deepest. It was necessary to be very careful in the vinification to avoid the wine showing too much Morey character, I am told. The bouquet is light, within the context of Virgile’s wines, quite floral, and with certainly a pleasing finesse across the palate, adequate acidity and very good length. A very accomplished Chambolle. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 70% whole bunches. It offers commingling red and black fruit on the nose, with loam and touches of citrus fruit. Focused if just missing a little complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and just the right amount of dryness. Hints of dark chocolate interlace the dark berry fruit on the finish. Traces of cola arrive on the aftertaste. Drink over the next 15 years. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is made with 100% whole bunches and matured in used oak this year and that is evident on the nose with open, transparent scents of blackberry, briary and crushed rock aromas. Less opulent than the Clos de la Roche, this is slightly more austere but no less captivating. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, great depth and cohesion, structured towards the finish with touches of melted tar and tobacco. Superb. |
