France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Vinous (91-93)The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comes from a 0.23-hectare parcel close to the Morey commune. This has a superior bouquet to the Echézeaux, more controlled and detailed, offering lovely floral, violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity, and fleshy and generous toward the finish. Good potential here. |

Jancis Robinson (18.5)Naughty heavy bottle. Medium-deep colour. Rich, multi-layered nose of slate, clove, red fruit and spice that is beautifully integrated. That integration and finesse continues through the palate, with beautiful, elegant tannins. This is a triumph of how to handle intensity and structure without being stolid. Bravo! |

Wine Advocate (93-95)Bouchard's tiny cuvée of 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild berries, plums, rose petals and rich soil tones. Hailing from a small parcel near the tree line that produces some 700 bottles in an average vintage, the wine is full-bodied, layered and elegantly structured, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a perfumed finish. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru, picked 30 August, has a lovely, complex and well-defined bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, white pepper and clove. The palate is well balanced with a fine spine of acidity, tensile and energetic with a touch of white pepper and clove on the finish. This is a very impressive Chambertin. |

Burgundy | 1 | 94-96 (VN (ST)) | HK$27,845.00
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94-96)(50% vendange entier; two-thirds new oak): Bright, dark red. Captivating nose combines raspberry, red licorice, iron, dried rose, mocha and minerals. all lifted by a high-pitched floral quality. Wonderfully juicy, intense and delineated, showing great energy but also considerable medicinal reserve. Silky and utterly weightless wine with great delicacy and outstanding balance. The rising, highly perfumed, extremely long aftertaste is like a wake-up call for the taste buds. The tannins here are remarkably suave. |

Vinous (94-97)Dark red-ruby. Knockout high-toned nose combines dark raspberry, violet, minerals and gingerbread, plus a note of cherries macerated in alcohol. Offers a rare and almost painful combination of silky fullness, fruit sweetness and salty energy, filling the mouth with perfume while conveying a magical lightness. Finishes with noble tannins and outstanding floral lift and length. |

Burgundy | 1 | 94-95 (JS) | HK$22,655.00
James Suckling (94-95)The nose has a restrained, mineral edge. Gun-smoke and flinty notes, wild herbs and sous bois with super fine cherries, as well as crushed red flowers. All very delicate this early in its journey. The palate has a sleek and appealingly powerful feel that expands fully on fine, long and fresh tannins. The regal finish is already impressive. Try from 2023. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2019 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is destined to be much less controversial than its 2018 predecessor, as Bouchard was able to determine the date of harvest this year. Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, woodsmoke, dried flowers, licorice and loamy soil, it's full-bodied, bright and tightly wound, with real concentration and a long, precise finish. |

Tim Atkin MW (96)Fr d ric Barnier is content that Bouchard performs the harvest for this purchased fruit from Pierre Damoy, and he harvests these toward the end of the vintage. Bouchard has the same 80 ares every year. The nose has an inviting rose petal lift while the palate fills with sturdy black fruits. The mouthfeel has a lightly firm, custard-like density surrounded by smooth and lightly chewy tannins. High-toned oak delicately scents the long finish. 2025-40 |

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru comes from the négociant side, from the same 0.8-hectare plot harvested by Bouchard’s team one hour before the rain. This has quite a reduced nose, metallic at the moment and occluding the terroir expression. The palate is balanced on the entry, quite rounded with ample fruit, mulberry and red plum mixed with dried herbs. Harmonious on the finish. Give this time in bottle before broaching. |

Wine & Spirit Magazine (91)Joyously ripe, this flaunts its sweet flavors of Bing cherries and fresh figs while the wine's potent structure keeps it on track. The gloss of sweetness doesn't diminish the flavor intensity or the wine's lift in the finish. The Grand Cru expression is hidden behind baby fat for now, but there's a sense of completeness and balance that suggests cellaring it for ten years or more. |

Burgundy | 1 | 90-92 (VN) | HK$11,395.00
Vinous (90-92)(Bouchard purchases grapes and does the harvest): Deep red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry and chocolate liqueur lack a bit of lift following the Bonnes-Mares. Fat, rich and sweet but a bit youthfully stunted and backward today, conveying flavors of plum, mocha and clove. Finishes with big tannins and lingering sweetness. Am I missing something? Gives an impression of very fast ripening of the fruit. |

Vinous (91-93)(30% vendange entier): Good dark red with ruby tones. Sexy nose combines black raspberry, smoky minerality, coffee and a whiff of animal fur; smells sweet! Then very ripe and fat in the mouth, with plush, almost syrupy red fruit flavors energized by a note of cherry pit. Still, this wine doesn't offer quite the clarity or lift of the Bouchard vinification. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins. I find this a bit extreme for the year. |

Burgundy | 1 | 89-91 (VN) | HK$14,076.00
Vinous (89-91)The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from purchased fruit. This is one cuvée that showed some over-maturity on the nose (it was picked September 16), and the almost 15% alcohol is tangible. The sweet, confit-like palate is fleshy and seductive, yet it does not communicate the essence of this Grand Cru as well as others that I have encountered. |
