France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Round, lush and precise on the crystalline palate, this is a highly refined, elegant, enormously lush and sexy Vouvray with great finesse but also tension and lingering salinity. Wine Advocate (90)The 1997 Vouvray Moelleux Le Mont reveals a touch of gold to its otherwise straw color. It offers a nose of deeply honeyed chalk with hints of botrytis as well as a complex, quince, candied almond, and acacia blossom-flavored personality. Medium-bodied and exceptionally pure, this wine is rich, flavorful, and simply gorgeous. Drink it over the next 15 years. |

Wine Advocate (94)According to Sarah Hwang, 2022 marked “the earliest harvest—we started on the 7th of September and finished on the 17th of October.” Indeed, the 2022 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux reflects the vintage’s warm conditions with a ripe, complex bouquet of pear, white peach, exotic fruits, kumquat and floral notes. Medium- to full-bodied, it is concentrated and structured yet retains a sense of poise and lift. A delicately fleshy core of fruit is framed by bright acidity, leading to a long, ethereal finish. This is an exquisite and precise wine, particularly impressive given the solar nature of the vintage. Residual sugar: 51 grams per liter. |

Vinous (93)Pure, bright yellow with golden tinges. Very pure aromas and flavors of rose petal, lime, crystallized ginger and brown spices. Hints of smoked beef and aromatic herbs add nuance to the palate, complicating flavors of orange marmalade and spicy herbs. Finishes with excellent length and so much acidity it makes your teeth hurt. I couldn’t get over just how high in acid these 2014 Hugel Gewürzes seemed to be (Gewürz is a notoriously low-acid variety) and Marc Hugel told me that in fact, for no clear reason, these wines had more or less the same acidity levels as the 2010s (2010 is, along with 2008, one of the highest-acid vintages in Alsace memory). |

Wine Advocate (95)The golden-yellow colored 2014 Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive is very clear, precise and elegant on the nose that represents a perfect selection of botrytis, but it's also a fruit-fly vintage that always causes a kind of irritation. Ripe peach and sage aromas intertwined with flinty notes on the intense nose lead to a palate that is rich, sweet and savory as well as elegant and saline, finishing highly stimulating despite the richness. Bottled with 11% stated alcohol and 94 grams per liter of residual sugar, this is a long-distance runner. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. |

Vinous (89-91)Stony, complex nose features white flowers, mint, quinine, lemon and lime. Rich and dense, with a dusty sense of minerality. As stony as this riesling is, it not at all hard. Finishes very long, with a whiplash of flavor. This comes across as dryer than the Tradition even though it's carrying a few more grams of sugar (10, vs. 7, with the same 13.2% alcohol), due to its stronger mineral character and higher acidity. Will be long-lived. |

James Suckling (96)Decadent and rich with mango, papaya, citrus, and mineral. Slate too. Full-bodied, dry and fruity. It really shows great length and complexity. First vintage of this single vineyard wine from the best parcel of the Schonenberg. Contrasty. Drink now. |

James Suckling (96)A very complex rose petal and herbal riesling that is ridiculously fresh for almost a decade of age. Very muscular and concentrated, but still cool and fresh with enormous mineral depth at the finish. Just coming to its peak, but decades of aging potential! |

Decanter (97)The crown in the Hugel jewels, Schoelhammer comes from 30 rows in the core of Grand Cru Shoenenbourg, high above Riquewihr. An intense, dry and mineral-charged Riesling with floral aromas and concentrated lime/lemon zest flavours. Fermented in neutral oak, this retains absolute purity and clarity of flavour. Bottled in Spring 2012, this vintage was first released in 2018. Still very youthful and with decades ahead. |

Alsace | 2 | 98 (WA) | HK$2,965.00
Wine Advocate (98)Hugel's 2014 Riesling Schoelhammer opens with a clear and remarkably fine and herbal bouquet that indicates perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit that is reminiscent of ripe mirabelles. On the palate, this is a rich and textural, very elegant and refined yet highly complex and long-lasting Schoenenbourg that combines power with incredible finesse. The finish is very long, stimulating and complex due to the remarkably fine saline acidity. This is a stellar Riesling from Alsace, and although I didn't taste it along with the great 2010, I dare say this is possibly the finest Schoelhammer Hugel has produced so far. 13.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. |

Jancis Robinson (17.5)Really dark! (the first wine to be so) Some mossy elements. Lots of freshness too, Luscious but needs time to settle down, The oak tannins seem very slightly intrusive. |

Vinous (93)Very ripe if youthfully subdued aromas of black raspberry, licorice and bitter chocolate. Rich, lush and sweet, boasting terrific density to its flavors of blueberry, black raspberry and tropical dark chocolate. Finishes dry, broad and firm, with substantial fine-grained, ripe tannins and a healthy edge of acidity. |

Burgundy | 1 | 91-93 (VN) | HK$1,690.00
Vinous (91-93)(the Humberts' vines are situated on rocky soil in the northern section of Mazoyères-Chambertin): Slightly high-toned aromas of black raspberry, currant, rocks and licorice pastille, plus a sexy note of smoky oak. The fattest and sweetest of this 2013 collection, already showing a lot of early personality to its dark fruit and licorice flavors. Turns tougher and stonier on the rather powerful, tannic back end. I can certainly envision this wine shutting down in the bottle. |
