Piedmont
Piedmont, located in northwest Italy, is renowned for producing some of the world's most exquisite fine wines. With its breath-taking landscapes, diverse terroir, and a rich winemaking heritage, Piedmont offers a captivating range of wines that captivate the senses. The region is home to legendary vineyards and wineries that have gained global recognition for their exceptional quality.
One of the most famous vineyards in Piedmont is Gaja, a family-owned winery that has played a pivotal role in elevating the region's wines to international acclaim. Their wines, such as Barbaresco and Barolo, are synonymous with excellence and showcase the complexity and elegance of Piedmontese wines. Another esteemed vineyard is Vietti, known for its iconic Barolo wines that beautifully reflect the region's terroir and winemaking traditions.
Piedmont is renowned for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, both made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barolo is often referred to as the "King of Wines" due to its full-bodied structure, intense aromatics, and potential for aging. Notable vineyards like Bruno Giacosa, Giacomo Conterno, and Paolo Scavino craft outstanding Barolo wines that capture the essence of the region. Barbaresco, a neighboring appellation, offers equally exceptional wines with a slightly softer and more approachable character. Renowned vineyards such as Produttori del Barbaresco and Gaja produce remarkable Barbaresco wines that exemplify the region's winemaking prowess.
Piedmont is also famous for its white wine, Moscato d'Asti, a sweet and aromatic wine made from the Moscato grape. Producers such as Michele Chiarlo and Saracco offer delightful Moscato d'Asti wines that are loved for their fragrant bouquet and refreshing sweetness.
Additionally, the region produces other notable wines, including Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, and Gavi. These wines exhibit unique characteristics that reflect the local terroir and grape varieties.
Piedmont's fine wines are a true expression of artistry and tradition, showcasing the region's commitment to excellence. Whether you're savoring a prestigious Barolo, an elegant Barbaresco, or a delightful Moscato d'Asti, Piedmont's wines offer a remarkable journey of flavors and a glimpse into the rich winemaking heritage of this captivating region.

Vinous (93)Cavallotto's 2005 Barolo Bricco Boschis is one of the stars of the vintage. It possesses gorgeous depth and striking overall balance. Dark cherries, smoke, tobacco and new leather are some of the notes that flow from this beautifully crafted, extroverted Barolo. The 2005 is just beginning to develop additional complexity in its bouquet. This is one of the few cases where I preferred the 2005 to the 2006. |

Wine Spectator (93)A beefy, briary version, with plenty of woodsy spice and tobacco flavors shading the bright cherry and black currant fruit. Stays fresh, finishing on the dry side. A traditional style. 2,000 cases made. -BS |

Wine Advocate (96)The 2010 Barolo Bricco Boschis is the flagship wine from this historic estate in Castiglione Falletto. The personality here is dark and brooding with savory aromas of cured meat and smoked bacon in a leading role. The intensity is bright and vibrant and the longer you contemplate the wine, the more it offers. Following a few swirls of the glass, you encounter sweet cherry, white almond skin, licorice and pressed rose. Still young, the wine shows enormous complexity. Its balanced structure and acidity would pair next to succulent lamb chops or any number of sophisticated meat recipes. Drink: 2016-2026. |

Vinous (90)Cavallotto's 2012 Barolo Bricco Boschis is soft, sensual and inviting, all of which make it more accessible at an early age than is typically the case. Bold and punchy throughout, the 2012 offers plenty of dark red cherry, plum, licorice and leather, all in a succulent style that can be appreciated with minimal fuss upon release. This silky, supple Barolo is very nicely done. |

Wine Advocate (96+)Cavallotto is on a roll with some very impressive new releases. The 2013 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a tremendous effort that has an edge on the excellent 2010 vintage in my view. The wine shows a beautifully exuberant but elegant bouquet with the ethereal and undertone fruit and spice aromas you get with Nebbiolo. Although the wine is never overdone, it does show silky persistence and a long finish that comes from the noble nature of the tannins and the wine's textural finesse. Yet, it is playfully deceiving in a way because behind that polished grace, it delivers impressive depth and power. |

Jeb Dunnuck (96)A rich ruby into garnet hue, the 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis offers layers of spice with rosemary, leather, cedar, and black cherry. Full-bodied and ripe, with rounded fruit that floods the palate with black raspberry, balsamic, and fresh earth, it is brooding and warming but remains pure and shows no signs of slowing down. Drink 2024-2044. |

Wine Advocate (98)All of these wines from Cavallotto deliver a very floral and perfumed subtext that gives lift and delicate buoyancy to the overall bouquet. This is the Castiglione Falletto magic that shows so well in this classic vintage. The 2016 Barolo Bricco Boschis offers dried cherry, sandalwood, bramble and forest floor. The wine reveals a slightly wild and untamed character that adds to its interest and personality. Overall, this is an elegant wine with a streamlined and elegant finish. The aromas are focused and bright. I can't wait to taste the Riserva expression from this site when it is released in three years' time. |

Vinous (92+)Cavallotto’s 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a powerhouse. A blast of sweet dark cherry, menthol, licorice, gravel and incense hits the palate. Youthful and quite strapping in terms of its presence, the 2018 holds quite a bit of promise. That’s the good news. But readers will have to be patient, as the tannins are quite searing at this stage for a wine that has typically been a bit more forthcoming. This is an especially serious edition of the Bricco Boschis Barolo. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2001 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is wonderfully precise and vibrant right out of the gate. Still tightly wound, the 2001 is so fresh. It’s a great example of what 2001 has to offer at its very best. Cedar, tobacco and floral tones lead into a core of bright red fruit. Brisk acids pull it all together on the close. I have always loved the 2001. Tonight, it delivers on all the potential I first sensed when it was a young wine. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2004 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe, tasted from magnum, is superb. Floral, leather and spice overtones confer vibrancy. This is just bursting at the seams with intensity in all directions. Brisk acids drive through the mid-palate and the long, sustained finish. What a gorgeous Barolo this is. The 2004 has always been superb; from magnum it is especially compelling. |

Vinous (96)The 2006 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe literally bristles with tons of pure energy and class. Freshly cut flowers, violets, mint and plums all burst from the glass in this deeply expressive, powerful Barolo. Tar, licorice, smoke and incense all develop in the glass, adding further gravitas to this already dark, layered, hulking Riserva. Readers will have to be exceedingly patient here! |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)Young and still very strapping, the 2008 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is quite the powerhouse. Lavender, tobacco and licorice weave through a core of beautifully layered, dark-toned fruit. Tonight, the 2008 is exceptionally beautiful, vivid and polished. The only issue with the 2008 vintage is that it is surrounded by years that yielded more overt Barolos, specifically 2006 and 2010. The 2008 San Giuseppe was gorgeous upon release, just as it is tonight. Tasted from magnum. |
